I went to the shop today to take a look at my car cuz the rear brake pads wore down really fast again. The passenger side wore down in about a half a year. I figured it was just from warped rotors, but the shop said my calipers are bad. Is it possible for calipers to go bad?? They said that is also the reason for my e-brake being so loose. Are they bullshitting me?? Thanks

 

couldn't it just be stuck calipers/stuck caliper pin/pin boots? I'm not really sure what happens when calipers go bad... but if the calipers are stuck/not sliding.. they could cause premature pad wear... maybe they need to be unseized and lubed w/ high temp brake grease...

also isn't the e-brake being loose from the worn pads or maybe the e-brake being out of adjustment?

 

Come on, Im sure you guys have either had this problem, or know this guy is bullshitting cuz youve been around honda's longer than me. All i want to know is with 120,000 miles, can a caliper go bad which makes the e-brake suck and the pads wear down really really fast???

 

If the caliper has seized, it is possible that it is partially engaged even when driving, which would cause it to wear down very fast.

When you brake, does the car pull to either side?

 

No, it didnt pull at all. But it was the Passanger Rear one, so im sure it wouldnt pull as bad as if it was the front brake.

 

I had the same problem with my left rear caliper. It seized up & midas said I would need a new one. Well a new caliper was over $250 dollars if I remember correctly, so I got one from a junk yard for $35. No problems since.
