Default Trade GSR tranny for ITR tranny?

Hi guys i just need your honest opinions on whether or not to trade my perfect working order Integra GSR tranny from my 95 integra GSR for a 1998 integra Type R USDM tranny. my GSR tranny has absolutely no grinds or issues, and the ITR tranny has no issues as well. could some people chime in and let me know what the pro's and cons would be to the tranny swap. the deal is my GSR tranny and $800 for the ITR tranny. any help is greatly appriciated.

can you guys chime in to why or why not you would do it. ignoring the money on my part and just telling me the pros and cons for the actual transmissions.

the vote is somewhat based on what you need. if you want and LSD, tighter gearing, a new clutch and would pay for labor it's not a bad deal. basically you would be paying $400 for the tranny switch and clutch. ITR boxes are worth $800 if they are OEM USDM used and in good shape. JDM's go for slightly more since they are almost always lower mile. GSR boxes also go for $350-400

i think thats a lil 2 much for a ITR tranny. HMO have ITR and CTR for 900. atleast thats what i heard right now. i think the GSR tranny and 200 is a fair trade

Buy a clutch and OEM ITR LSD for your gsr tranny, and youd be spending just as much. If you do want the tigher gearing tho, just get the ITR tranny.

My motto is: "Dont fix what is not broken", so if your tranny is in good condition, why spend that money now. You can wait until it goes bad and then just buy another one.

If i needed a tranny, i would take the ITR over the GSR.

But considering you have a perfect working tranny in your car, there is no reason to spend $800. The gsr is good.

Besides the gearing and LSD, there are other benefits to the ITR according to the Type R technical brochure. Something about smoother shifting and stronger internals. Lighter flywheel also.

My GSR tranny is bad and I'm trying to decide whether to get a JDM GSR LSD tranny or a Type R tranny.

if you aren't making *** loads of boosted power the ITR is a no brainer here. prices are similar and the itr gearset is a better fit for 99% of NA cars

I'd take the $800 and invest in a Quaife LSD. And while you have it apart you can rebuild some peices-parts, and maye even throw in some M-factory gears. Just my opinion but I wouldn't do the trade. Especialy since you have no idea how badly the ITR was beat on previously.

Having just swapped out the stock tranny in my '01 GS-R for a brand new '01 ITR tranny, I can tell you it's totally worth it. Forgetting about the $$ issue, if you plan to go FI at any point in the future it's basically mandatory. You will absolutely need the LSD to get the power to the ground. It's a stronger unit, even if you double ur stock HP you'll only have to worry about the clutch(maybe). The biggest diff I've noticed is the lighter flywheel(14 vs. 18 lbs. stock). My GS-R used to be a dog at low revs, which is really the only weakness of the B18C1. It's designed for high revs b/c of low torque #s. However, the ITR flywheel helps compensate a lot for that. I spool up much quicker now and the car is fast out of the hole, there's no more low end lag and it's a blast to drive. The ITR gearbox is closer-ratio than the stock GS-R and approaches the smoothness of the NSX gearbox. You'll notice that you'll rev higher in each gear; your cruising RPMs at hiway speed will be a few hundred higher than before b/c you'll change your final drive ratio. Think of it this way: higher revs = more time in VTEC(not a bad thing at all;-)) If you want more info I can talk to u on the side at more length.

If your concidering a better tranny why not sell the gsr for $500-600 easliy!,( ive sold 3 great cond. gsr trannys here for $600!) and put that with the $800 and now you got $1,400! for a better 98'' spec jdm itr tranny which is a way better tranny than the usdm version cause of the 4.7 final drive you will thank me for doing that trust me!

for autocross probably, for drag racing, not really, you're in 4th either way which more or less makes them a wash. brand new US ITR trannies can be had from that guy on ebay for $1300. if someone would actually give you 500-600 for an old gsr box i'd dump it in a minute, add 700-800 to it and buy a new in the box itr trans
