Help! '97 CR-V Auto Box - How to Remove 1st Clutch Assembly
I have a 1997 CR-V which will not go into reverse. In fact, when you shift into reverse and let go of the brake pedal, there is a whining noise from the gearbox. My mechanic has diagnosed that the noise is definitely coming from within the gearbox and has removed the gearbox. He has removed the end cover, but is stuck at the 1st clutch assembly. It turns/spins in both directions making it impossible to remove the locknut that fastens the clutch assembly to the shaft.
His question is, how does he remove this locknut? We have a Honda CR-V repair manual, but it does not show how to remove this nut. Or am i missing something?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

time for a new transmission. Seems that Honda automatics don't live as long as their engines. Some girl bought a '90 Civic off of me and a couple weeks later the transmission blew a hole in the case... I have no idea how this could have happened, but it did. Lots of people have issues with the autos in the bigger vehicles (ridgeline, oddy, pilot). Perhaps CRV (think civic with awd and lift kit) suffers the same. Being that this usually affects larger vehicles (puts tranny under more load), I think its due to lack of an adequate transmission cooler.
The problem with Ody trans stopped in 05. Ridgeline and Pilot rarely have issues. Crvs, almost never. Buy a replacement trans. Only a few Honda transmissions suck...
Hi
The particular clutch assembly (reffered to as the 1st Clutch Assembly in the manual) are shown on the attached images. I have 2 images essentially showing the same clutch assembly that i would like to remove. On both images, the image is circled in black.
After removing the end cover, all the visible gears and clutch assembly turn, making it difficult to remove the locknuts. My question is, how do you remove the locknuts??
Any help will be greatly appreaciated.
Regards
P.S. CRV2000 - Thanks for your images Unfortunately I couldnt see your images clearly so i have attached images from the manual that you should be able to see.
