Looking to add a second resonator
Ok here is the current situation:
95 Civic EX Eagle vitara garret t3/t4 57 trim.
I currently have a 2.5 inch down pipe to a 3 inch ebay exhaust. i cut off the Mellon cannon, and basically used the kit for the piping, instead of the cannon I welded up a summit racing turbo back muffler, painted it black and called it a day. I am really happy with the sound, not loud at idle and around town (at least most cops dont mind) give a nice deep tone, and since it is turbo and resonated, and has a real muffler, none of that annoying typical civic rasp/buzz.
So this weekend the muffler rotted out on the bottom (what do you expect of a muffler that cost 25 dollars and is the house brand, and i drive in the winters of New England haha) i did a quick fix and welded a piece of sheet metal to the bottom so that i can at least drive around until the new stuff comes in.
So i am ordering a Thrush Hush super turbo muffler, which should last a bit longer and sound similar. at the same time i am redoing my down pipe since it is a very tight radius because i used to have AC. I also want to add another resonator.
No looking at resonators, the cheapest "resonator" i see is pretty much the one from SLP, and costs 74 dollars. now i have seen people use in line mufflers as resonators as well, namely cherry bomb mufflers. They are alot cheaper, and you can get them in a much longer length. Now i have a few questions about this:
1.) do they work as well, or at least some what as well as a real resonator?
2.) these are Glass pack mufflers, how soon do i have to worry about them blowing out?
3.) any other recommendations?
Thanks for any input!

yeah it would be loud if it was just a glass pack, but i am just adding it to my current set up, it cant be any louder then before... and it was quiet to begin with.
and the magnaflow is 75 dollars, for a 14inch length one. i still need to jack up the car and see how long of a resonator i can fit in there....

A glass pack muffler works fine as a resonator, I've run them for years with no problems. (even in the chicago salt infested roads) It does quiet down the exhaust a noticeable level. But how much it will help your system is dependant on the length, size and location of the resonator.
BTW, header paint works great to fend off the dreaded cancer from the outside.

as far as the paint goes, the muffler had a coat of high temp primer, and 2 or 3 coats of high temp black paint, im pretty sure it rotted from the inside out, the water just collected there and worked its dirty deeds....
