Default 2001 accord D4 light won't light up & Cruise issues

Hello all,
I am chasing a faulty cruise control but also realized that the odo light was out (thought that might be my CC problem) and my d4 light is out. Well, I replaced the odo light and was going to do the d4 light but there are no individual light bulbs for P, R, N, D blah blah blah. What the heck? All the other gear selections light up from bottom to top but not d4. I played with the switches and wires coming from the gear lever thinking maybe a loose wire but the others light up so I don't get it. I started to tear in to the dash panel to look for hidden bulbs but it got pretty complicated pretty quick. I do not have any blinking codes or anything and the car drives great (new Honda tranny 20K ago) any ideas? Think this is why my cruise isn't working?

The cruise control push button on the dash turns green when pressed but nothing happens when you press the set cruise button on the wheel? What am I missing?

Thanks,
Chad

Yep, checked all the fuses. Still have no idea where to go from here.

Thanks,
Chad

Hmm, didn't check those. Know which ones I should be looking for? I really should go get the haynes manual!!! I have read some other posts about the steering wheel switch going bad. Might try that next.

When you first turn on the key, but don't start the car, see if both park and D4 light up (they should). If D4 doesn't light up, it's likely a bad bulb (you have to take apart the cluster to get to it). If it does light up, drive the car in D3, and then try the cruise control. If that works, then you have a bad shifter position switch.

DUH, that sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks, I'll check it out tonight. But just so I am clear, the bulbs for the gear lights are inside the cluster not part of the bulbs that you can remove from the back of the cluster, right? So not only do I have to remove the cluster from the dash I have to remove the back cover and circuit board to get to them? How do you remove the needles from the guages?

Thanks,
Chad

You don't need to remove the needles. On the back of the circuit board behind the gas and temp gauges, you will see 2 tabs for each. Straighten those out, and the whole gas/gear/temp gauge thingy will pop right out (push on those tabs you just straightened). You can see the bulbs from there. You'll probably have to remove the tach and speedo as well (same concept). Once you do that, you'll have a free circuit board to work on.

AAAHHH, I see. That's sweet. I was worried about taking the whole thing apart but I remember seeing those tabs when I did the odo light. Much easier than trying to pull needles off and ruining the gauges. Going check it out right now.

Thanks,
Chad

Well, not all my dash lights light up prestart. I get all the warning lights and all but only park is lit. Car is blocked in so I haven't checked the cruise in d3 yet. I'll let y'all know.*******JUST RE-READ YOUR POST, I missed the park AND d4 should be lit part.***** Oops. I will check the bulb out tomorrow!!!

DonaldAdams, thanks for the offer. Not sure how to get it from you though. I think gmail will let me do like 20 or 25 megs but that means you would have to split it up somehow. I know there are some online file sharing sites but don't know anything about any of them. I'll work on it and if I come up with something I'll let you know. Would sure be nice to have.

Thanks,
Chad
