Default 5spd tranny. 1986 vs. 1989

1989 Honda Accord Lxi 5spd manual.

Will a 1986 5spd manual work in a 1989 5spd manual car? I picked up a tranny yesterday to replace the blown one in my 89. As I was getting ready to insall it, I noticed the main shaft is a little different at the very end. The spline count is the same and same diameter, but after the splines there is about a 1/2" of just round steel shaft. On my 89 the diamter of that last 1/2" is about 11/16" in diamter. On the tranny I picked up yesterday, the last 1/2" is about 9/16" diameter. Would that matter? I can get some pictures if that helps.

The one that came out of my '89 has E2R5-2051104 and the other one has A2Q5-1008984.

Let me know asap. I dont want to slap it in if its not gonna work.
