Default Finished putting my B18C5 back together...

Well, after I found out the guy I purchased my ITR motor from, unsucessfully ran a JRSC on the motor, I decided a complete rebuid was in order.

I initially was going to just change the pistons and rings, but that turned into all bearings, almost all seals in the bottom. The head got the new valve stem seals and a standard 3 angle valve job.

The block was honed and Spoon ITR pistons were used. Everything else is stock. This is going in my 96 hatch in a couple of weeks, in which I will decide if I am going to swap my gas tank as well for the stupid PTANK sensor.

I forgot to take pictures while putting it back together. It was apart for over two months and during that time I CLEANED EVERYTHING with simple green etc. When I say everything, that includes bolts! All that is left to do now is adjust the valves, but I need my buddies moroso wrench first.

But here are the pictures I remembered to take today. It is really clean

i had a couple questions.
1. can you explain the seals for the block? never heard of the seals. (no flames please)
2. you replaced all the bearings for the block? what are the other ones besides the bearings for the main caps and rod caps? they go on the block itself too dont they?
3. did you have to do all the clearances and use plastigage and stuff? check crank end play?

sorry if these are lame questions, but im REALLY interested in building my own block. thanks!

1 - the main seals are the ones on both ends of the crank, one in the oil pump, and one on the flywheel side cover. I also changed the o-rings on the water tube etc.

2- the only bearings are the mains, rods and thrust. All were replaced with new.

3 - I ordered the bearing colors that the block, crank, rods etc called for, then verified them with plastigauge. Checked the crank endplay with feeler gauges.

Simple green with scotch brite pads on all the cast aluminum peices and valve cover. Then a wash with dish soap and water to clean the simple green residue off. Simple green sprayed onto a hand towel to clean the bolt heads and bolts. Nothing I hate more then greasy bolts!

Did you have the reciprocating assembly balanced with the pistons, etc.?

Looks like your gonna have a really nice, reliable motor on your hands...

Total Cost?
