is my clutch shot?
something is terribly wrong with my car especially when it WARMS up or its REALLY HOTT OUT like today..like when i go to take off in first gear the car wont ****ing move until like 5k rpms..it just bogs like ****...the only way to get power is to hit high rpms and go into vtec..its a 99si with 108,000 miles with an original clutch..i was thinking the short ram intake might have something to do with it when its hott out because its just soaking up hott air...but if i turned the air condition on the car would probably just die or not ****ing move if i started off in first gear...i went to a mechanic though and he said the clutch is ok....but for some reason when the car warms up or its really hott out i cant ****ing get any power what so ever...
help?
help?
nah man...its hard to explain..it idles fine..i changed the plugs wires..
but today its ****ing hott out..say if i went to go start out on a hill i would have to rev the **** out of the car or putter the clutch like in and out multiple times just to get going...its hard to explain..it just feels like its going to die...really bad low rpm bog.

test it, put it in 5th gear and try to move from a dead stop, if the revs go up then ur clutch is shot but if it stalls then is good.
108xxx on an original clutch????.................

What if you try to take off in 1st gear? It doesn't grab until the clutch pedal is almost completely released? Theres an adjustment for the clutch pedal because as the disk wears, you have to compensate.
I don't think it's clutch... at least, I don't think a slipping clutch would cause a low rpm bogout. If anything, it would cause it to rev higher than intended as you're trying to take off and the clutch slips. It would cause revs with no movement.
As far as what it IS... I really don't know without a CEL. It could be a failing O2 sensor that hasn't tripped the CEL yet. It could be a lot of things.
How is your clutch *fluid* level? I've seen a clutch not wanting to disengage properly due to low fluid cause low rpm bogging conditions.
Have you inspected plugs yet? Have you done anything like detail your engine bay lately? I accidentally got water in my plugwells once by spraying out my engine... that caused all kinds of weird bog/misfire symptoms that didn't throw a code until I eventually figured out that my plugs were wet.
Exactly. I don't know where people got this crazy idea that a clutch is a maintanence item. A clutch if not abused will usually last the life of the vehicle. i've seen more than one stock OEM civic clutch last over 300,000 miles (500,000kms) 108,000 is nothing. Most of them i've seen last in an around the 180,000 mile (300,000km) mark.
sorry guys my keyboard broke (ran out of ****ing batteries lol)
but nah guys i dont abuse this car at all...not burnouts or anything like that..i just cruise like 99 percent of the time..
the fluid level is fine..
i just got back from the store and i was driving it on the highway..the motor has really good response...and it was a bit cooler out so it wasnt even bogging out in first...
im thinking its got something to do with the short ram intake during hott summer days...a clutch that isnt in the best shape...and i probably new to change my distrubutor..i know they go around 120k
but yeah..i changed the wires..actually just spent 70 dollars on wires and i just changed the plugs like 6 months ago..
its not like i go around red lining the **** out of this car..the car barely sees above 7k
i just dont understand why the hell it bogs like **** sometimes...
could it be my catalyic converter?
distrubutor?
cap and rotor?
or maybe i need to change the short ram intake that is held on by zip ties? (it came with the car when i got it)
i dunno
i change the oil every 3k
no idea what is causing this

almost sounds like a misfire but i wouldn't know unless i was there! cuz my car did that alot too it was bogging like crazy in all the gears, mostly when it was raining out or hot! i replaced the igniter and coil then it stopped doing that! cuz my car was misfiring in all 4 cylinders and never threw an CEL!
What about a temp related issue? you seeing your temp spike? because if the temp spikes or the ECU thinks the temp spikes it ****s with the timing and **** to keep you from blowing the motor and it will bog down. I had this problem with my Civic when I first got it. It turned out that it was overheating when I was at lights (I wasnt paying attention and I noticed it after it happened a few times). When I would hit the gas the car wouldnt go for ****. The RPM's would go up sometimes but it wouldnt move. It was also automatic at that time so....
If its bogging down it doesnt sound like clutch at all because when the clutch goes out it slips which would cause ur RPM to spike and the car not to move. It could be a transmission problem, either a synchro, lose shift linkage or possibly low tranny fluid.

i dont know but it runs really good if its cold out
it runs really really good if its cold and wet out
if its hot and humid **** im not going anywhere..bog city.
also when i drive the car and the car is cold it runs alot better...

it really sounds like a thermostat, radiator fan, temp sensor issue to me. Since it only happens when the car is HOT.
