Default Oil All Over Motor / Leak? Were? How much to Fix? How Hard?

Topic pretty much says it all. i will sum it up for you in a small story.

Was driving to work, ( 30 Min Drive) i notice i was smoking. not from the exhaust, but from the engine underneath. and now i got my oil changed and i got oil all over my motor. so what im ganna do is clean it up with purple power and power wash it.

i was told it could be the following:

  • Oil Pan Gasket - How Hard? How Much?
  • Dist. O-Ring - How Hard? How Much?
  • Front/Rear Main Seals - How Hard? How Much?
If There is anything else i need to check me let me.

Pretty much im asking what would you guys do and check for first?

Funny you made this thread, I just changed my girls and my oil pan gaskets hahaah..

Mine was the OEM one and it was cracking. It was leaking a bit, but I had to check my oil pan so I did it anyways. I got an OEM one for $30.

She has a D16Y7 so you can get it at Pep Boys for like $15. Her gasket was HORRIBLE. The bottom of her car looks like someone shot it with a Super Soaker filled with oil lol.

Its easy to do the gasket. Just remove the down pipe from the header and let it hang. The oil pan will NOT come off without this remove dont even try it trust me.
Remove the (12) 10MM bolts that are holding up the oil pan. Afterwards shimmy it out with a screw driver.
Clean up the exterior with purple power and install the new gasket. Add some High-temp RTV silicone to the outside of the gasket.

Its easy to do, but it just takes a lot of work and your hands get cramped up. Oh, and youll need a long extension to get to some of the bolts.

Distributor O-Ring is easy. It costs like $1.80 at honda. Remove the dizzy and youll see a ring on the tip where it meets the cam. Rip it off and install the new one. My girls was leaking REALLY bad from there too.

Valve cover gasket is also easy. They sell it at Pep Boys for $11.99 and it comes with VC gasket, spark plug gaskets, and bolt gaskets.
The VC gasket is self explanatory.
The spark plug gaskets need to be pulled off with like a vice grip. They dont like to come off easy. Just grip them with a vice grip and pull. Then install the new ones by just pressing them on. It took me like 15 minutes to remove all four.
For the bolt gaskets, get dikes and rip off the gasket. They wont come off of the bolt so dont even try. I used a dremel since I didnt have dikes. Afterwards, use a lot of force to insert the new gasket on the bolt. Try different ways to put them on, I used my palms pressed together to do so.

I parked my chicks car on top of a piece of cardboard over night and guess what? NO leaks.

Oh make sure you drain the oil first! Let it drain for about two hours though, or else itll keep leaking onto your floor since its still dripping.

Take it back to the place that changed your oil and demand that they fix it

If it helps I did all those fixes to a D16Y7 and D16Y8 and it fixed the oil leaks in both.
