gas smell on 98 accord
I have a 98 accord ex, automatic, 4 cylinder with 150,000 miles. After its been running, there is a strong fuel smell coming from the left underside of the car. There is no CEL or stored codes. I've done some thread searching and previous posts recommend checking the EVAP system bypass solenoid valve and 2-way bypass valve (canister purge solenoid and valve). I pulled off both solenoids and hooked up a 12volt source. I heard a click with each application and removal of the 12v. Having heard that, I'm assuming the solenoids are OK? Is there a possibility that the actual charcoal canister is bad? Any suggestions? Anyone? Beuller?
I had the gas smell problem with my 1998 Honda Accord. The smell only was a problem when the engine was running, especially idling. In my case, there was nothing wrong with the fuel line, gas cap, gas tank or carbon canister. It turned out to be a loose spark plug. In addition to the other fuel related areas, I highly recommend checking each plug and tightening if necessary.
