Default 93 accord won't start

ok so my parents just bought a 93 accord lx and the car won't start. the car cranks over but doesn't start and it stays with the D4 light flashing. I went and bought them the main relay thinking this was the problem it still doesn't start so anybody out here can tell me what the problem i'll appreciate it

I've never actually owned a honda with an automatic, but doesn't a blinking D4 mean the tranny is taking a ****?

I'd say it's unrelated, but you can always use a paper clip and check the cel.

You're obviously cranking, so are you not getting fuel or spark?

Check fuel and spark, wouldn't hurt checking that the timing belt hasn't skipped any teeth.

On the '93 the flashing D4 lamp is a separate issue from that of the no start condition.
You need three conditions met for the engine to run:
Compression
Spark
Fuel

When you first turn the key to the run position, do you hear the pump momentarily cycle? (fuel delivery)

When you try to start it, does it seem to turn over too easily? (timing belt)

Disconnect any one spark plug wire from it's spark plug, insert a spare plug in the end of the wire and lay it on the valve cover. Crank the engine. You should have a noticable spark jumping the plug's electrodes. If not

Disconnect the distributor cap and verify the distributor rotor rotates when the engine is cranked. If it does not, you've a broken timing belt. If it does rotate, but you still have no spark, suspect the ignitor module mounted in the distributor.

P Adams FTW, but couldn't you just pop the cover off the timing belt?

Unless you have an easy way to pull the timing belt cover (i.e.- you removed it before and left out the "difficult" bolts when putting it back on), I'd recommend what P said and pull the dizzy cap. Not as easy to pull the cover as you'd think.

Not sure if anyone here mentioned it before, but make sure to check ALL of your grounds. Nearly every time I have a no start problem, it's a loose ground somewhere.

whoa chill before you pull off the valve cover to check the belt... the motor will wind not turn over if its the timing belt.... and if your d4 light is flashing you need to do a CEL check and post the codes and ill get you the meaning... so before you go off tearing your motor apart and turning a potentially $20 issue into a $200 issue do the CEL check if you dont know how to do this here is a site specifically for CB7's (90-93 accord) that will tell you what to do

i had forgotten to mention that all though alot of you may not think so but the a and b solenoids on the transmission have alot to do with this on the 92 and 93 auto transmissions.... i've dealt with 3 cb's with the same issue and it turned out to be the solenoids.... but then again what do i know i've only been working on cb's for about 14 years....lol

.... well, so can a bad tcm (really common problem) be the cause of the D4 indicator flashing; but neither will keep it from running. Lets concentrate on one thing first, address it and THEN move on.

actually they can..... for some reason or another. i've ran into an instance on a 93 wagon that from time to time it would just not want to start and was flashing the D4 and not the CEL so i checked it... ran me about 9 codes... i changed the tcm and it started right up and kept driving like a champ not a problem since....

now im not trying to call you out or nothing like that i'm just letting known my past experience and what the issue may be

Fair enough, past experience is the best learning tool. I (however) have not run into that scenario (until now). Let's see how this plays out...

I have a 96 accord. And when trying to turn on it wont until the green "d" light turns on then off first .... If it dont do that then it wont start..... At the same time ive notice that the main relay also goes along with this d. Light. Any ideas. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes b4 turning on
