I use a PPG dog box for the street and track. Awesome at the track, and haven't had any issues on the street. It takes some getting used to, but other than that, I have no complaint.

This is a ~700whp street/strip car, and definitely sees a good beating.

I always heard it's near impossible to effectively drive a dogbox on the street?

It's a transmission with no synchros so it takes some getting used to driving normally. You have to rev match on down shifts, and make sure you shift quickly when you do make a shift. Other than a few more noises and clanking, I think people saying you can't drive a dog box on the street are just wrong. I've put a bunch of miles on mine already. I would say that I've had to learn how to shift properly, and educate myself on how the engagement process works, but once that is done, and you are familiar with it's characteristics, it's actually a much stronger trans, so I don't see any down falls?? It shifts like butter at the track, so much faster than my synchro trans, so I guess you just need to weigh all options before you make a decision. Luckily (well, I don't know if it's luck) I only had one, so it was an easy decision. lol

In all my experiences, I've had far more troubles with synchro trans than I have with dog boxes.

Daily driver? How much power/trq are you making? If you are set on a dog box, hit up T1 for the PPG box. I would also look at the PPG syncro box as well.

Tony, look at a synchro box for the street man. There are quite a few options available to you, and I don't think you'll be happy with a dog box on the street

Dog boxes do not come out of gear when you're off the throttle, not the type of dog boxes we have available to us anyways.

There are pros and cons of each, a little more about the car and what it's used for would help in deciding which would be best for you.

That might be true, but he'd be much happier with it at the track, gotta weigh all options here. Not everyone is going to be happy with a synchro box at the track, and not everyone is going to be happy with dog box on the street.
