Default automatic 5th gen preludes

i've been reading that the 5th gen automatics are notorious for problems. The problem is i cant drive a m/t. How often do these problems occur and should it stop me from being this car

just the transmission is the problem on automatics, manual is easy to learn and drive. you can get that car and take to a honda dealership to have them check out the transmission on that automatic.

even if i learned how, my parent wouldn't let me drive a 5speed for unreasonable reasons. Do you have any other suggestions for a first car?(under 5k and would last me 3years)

Whats their reasoning? A drivers license indicates you are legally qualified and approved to drive ANY vehicle (barring trucks and vehicles requiring a CDL) so in essence you are supposed to know how to drive manual. I really can't think of any reason why driving a manual woudl pose some sort of danger or something. And really if they are that concerned about you driving a manual, why would they let you get a sports car as capable as a prelude (I mean it's no corvette but it has enough power to get you into trouble).

The reason might be cuz they know he's gonna race it or break it, but you can do that with an auto as well, I guess parents see things they way they are.

well my parents are are very close minded. They hear things from their friends and believe things without question. They also want to drive it even though i will be leaving in a year.

Get a different car and if they want to drive it, they had better pay for it. When you're 18 and know how to drive, then come back and get a 5spd Prelude.

Do NOT buy an automatic Prelude of any generation. It's like cutting off your own ***** every day.

<---5th gen auto w 84k miles. Transmission has never given me any problem other than a small leak from the trans. lines but that was a cheap fix.

how often do the transmission fail? i don't really plan on abusing it. It appealed to me because its a nice looking car that you don't see very often.
