Default Catalytic Converters in California

I need my cat replaced and there are 49 state legal ones from magnaflow. What's the diff from those and California OBD II cats? will it not pass the sniffer? why won't it pass smog?

Just make sure the new cat you purchase is on the California Air Resources Boards list of catalytic convertors compliant with new regulations that became effective on 1/1/09.

Here's the list

Also, here's the aftermarket parts CARB EO database.

Magnaflow/Carsound has CA cats as well. They are just extremely expensive.

Easiest solution is to simply move out of California.

I have a carsound cat that I purchased from a muffler 2 years ago and I still passed smog. Well, the person that smogged my car is a friend of mine and I guess he overlooked all that. I also did a tune at the same time.

Or what he said...Just move out of ca

How would this be easy or less expensive ?

Just buy either the OEM cat or CA specific Magnaflow.

Easier because it's a 1-time hassle. As opposed to constantly dealing with retarded California laws. Less expensive? Probably not, unless you live in CA your entire life.

can you explain what makes it different? or is it just that it specifically just needs a CARB number?

No, I can't explain what's different about them. But it's not just a CARB #.
