If there is a high amount of rust/build up on the threads there isn't very much you can do. PB Blaster or even heating the rings up and then budging them with a screw driver and a hammer would work if the threads are still fresh.

Look up this stuff called Kroil. I use it for freeing up rusted gun parts and works really well. Kinda pricey but good.

There are some coilovers out there that will not budge no matter what you soak it in. Basically the entire coilover has become like a large bolt that is completly cross threaded and seized. You might break it loose, but getting it off the rest of the way will be a pain in the ***. If PB Blaster ain't working you are more than likely in the zone of needing a new cylinder. With D2, that means buying a new damper. You are most likely going to have to take a rubber mallet to it, and try beating it off after you let it soak in PB Blaster overnight, and if that doesn't work your basically screwed. This is the very reason why I tell my customers to do some preventive maintanance especially for those that see harsh winters like I do here in the Northwest.

Keep on trying, and the next step would be to try Kano Kroil. That stuff is the next step up from PB Blaster. Again good luck!

the way i've freed up my teins is with brake cleaner and lower the coilovers till the spring is complete free of tension, then use a whole can to clean one coilover to clean the threads and rings. this wont work if there is rust in the threads and rings because then its seized,
