Default Cam swap help

Sooooooo i've got this cute little d15b1 that had a d15b7 cam shaft in it when i bought it. i thought it was all right but i then i decided to swap in a d16a6 cam, and that's when i troubles started.

when i put it all together i tried to start it and it would start, idle really really low, then die. i noticed that my fuel line was leaking quite badly, so i fixed that, no more leaks, and now it wont even start. it cranks, and skips like it wants to start, but no luck

i think i may have timed it wrong... i gotta re check that tomorrow. and i know i need to get a y7 or a y8 cam gear to even out the half tooth difference.

what has me confused at the moment tho, is that when i timed it, i went by the two lines that line up with the head. HOWEVER the chiltons manual that i used said that to time si's one is supposed to line up the line that is opposite of the UP work that points to the plastic arrow on the timing cover.

soooooooooooo which way do i use to time it?

1st thing, burn that Chilton's + D/L the helms for sho! (or borrow/buy a FSM) Chilton's suck!!! Hayne's are a lil better, but not much. Set the bizkit @ TDC with a straw or sumtin long enuff (not too damn short + drop into, lol) thru plug hole/pulley mark-And an adj cam gear ftw mang!

well i have a copy of the helms on both my computers, and it basically has the same pix as that, but i promise i'll use it as emergency *** wipe lol. so i'm guessing i go by si standards, since my head is basically an si head? i mean, they're both pm3's, just different cam's right? and is it ok for me to use my b1 cam gear? or do i need to go get the a6 cam gear?

sorry for all the questions, i didnt find much info in the faq.

if the cam is an 88 a6 you use he 1.5 cam gear, if it is 89-91 you use the y7/8 gear. i had the same problem with my b1 a6 adventure and finally decided to just run stock cam. pulled the t. belt about 10 times and finally said FORGET IT! also check (d-series.org) lost of write ups on this cam swap. some guys gained 11hp.

huh well i was doin the swap so i can get a little bit more bottom end out of my b1... was told that they are pretty gutless till higher rpms and that this would help..... my cam is from either a 90 or a 91. going to go get a y8 cam gear from honda tomorrow and see if it works. if not then back to the b7
