Default New Here, new(ish) car with swap problems (suprised?)

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, though not to cars. prepare for wall of text, sorry.
Had a 91 Civic hatch for years and loved it. now I have obtained a 94 del Sol. I knew it had a swap when I bought the car, was told it was straight out of a 97 Civic EX, and everything I knew to check for was all right. test drove the car and everything was fine (except the suspension, but that's easy to deal with). didn't even smoke when I was checking it out.
well, forty miles after I bought the car it starts acting weird, doing the looping thing and trying to die if I take it out of gear and leave my foot off the gas, meanwhile, I can nearly watch the gas gauge going down.
I limped it home, and find that cylinder #2 is flooding like the fuel injector just plain doesn't shut off. checked things over, swapped injectors around, still same problem in same cylinder. check ECU, it's and aftermarket item with a Jet Performance sticker on it, so I try a couple other Honda ECU's and it totally changes how the car runs, eliminating the flooding in cylinder #2, but the car still runs astoundingly rich, as in you can place a rag over the tail pipe and it will get wet in about five seconds. burnable wet!

so.
did my research, figured out that my car (theoretically) was originally a 94 Si with the D16Z6 engine. what it appears that I have now is a D16Y7 block with a D16Y8 head on it (head is stamped with a P2J-3 above the engine block number).
everything I read says that this combination works just fine, and the engine seemed to drive great when I was testing it. so I know that this can be made to work.
whats troubling me, and what everything boils down to at this point in time, is what stock computer can I use? it seems that the Y7 and Y8 engine internals are identical, so a P2P ECU should run the car just fine, right? or should I be looking for something else? I want to get the car to run on base fuel maps so that I can figure out if my problems are in a blitzed ECU, or wiring gone wrong since I think the car started as OBD1 and the engine it has now would have been OBD2...

at least I know a lot more about D series engines now!

you can use a p28(Original ECU for the D16Z6) to run it. since your car is obd1. if whoever swapped it used an obd2 harness then you can use the p2p ecu. which is the y8 ecu (96-98 EX)

Thanks much man! a friend has a p28, going to scour junkyards tomorrow (I hope) for the p2p. what has me worried is that, while all the wiring is very clean, it looks more like whoever did the swap may have converted the ecu to engine bay harness to mate with the OBD2 harness on the engine. going to be fun if there's problems in there.

OP, This set up is called a mini me swap. Usually when these frankenstien motors are built, they are converted to obd1 then tuned using a chipped P28 (d16z6) ecu. If your car is converted to OBD1 try to get it tuned. It may be off a bit in compression ratio or what not depending on how the builder built it. If its Obd2... thats a different story...hahaha... you can always convert, swap, try to use a Y8 ecu. If you need any help or want to learn more check out d-series.org . They will most likely be able to answer your questions. They are all about the SOHC. GL! Cheers
