Default ZC question

Searched but none of the results I got really answered my question so here goes......If I need to replace the head on my DOHC ZC, can a use the head off of a D16A1? Since the head gasket is from an 88-89 Integra I would assume that I could, but I'm looking for a definite answer and not just an assumption. If I am able to, is there anything I can expect as far as performance gains/losses/quirks, etc.?

the D16A1 and DOHC ZC heads are not the same - they are only similar - the 86-87 D16A1 head won't work due to the distributor mounting - the 88-89 D16A1 head will work on the ZC, but the ZC timing belt cover won't bolt onto the head - the ZC valve cover will not work on the D16A1 head - you need the A1 valve cover - the ZC driver's side engine mount has two bolts that go into the block and one bolt that goes into the head - the A1 head doesn't have a hole for this bolt - the A1 head has 2 more intake manifold attaching studs than the ZC - to use the ZC intake manifold, you need to remove 2 studs from the head

you could replace it with a d16a8/9 head. thats what i did. the d16a8/9 are the same version but it was sold in europe with out the zc code. if you go with the a1 you are going to have to swap the piston because there p29 not the pm7 that both the zc and the d16a8/9 have. but i recommend going with the a8 insted of the a9 because you will have to use 101 octane because eudm cars run with higher octane compare to American cars.
