First time basecoat/ clearcoat questions?
I have learned much about paint/ painting in the last few months. I have my car stripped down and body work 98% completed. The car is color changing from light blue to ? I want to paint it a Grey metallic, but my better sense is telling me to stick with a more forgiving color, a solid. I have a professional painter friend who, along with others are advising me through the process. He says a dark metallic is no harder to deal with than white when it comes to base/clear applications. He says that as long as I have full coverage with base I will be just fine. Since this is my first base/clear app. I don't want to make a mistake that would cost me the materials again. I really want the metallic color, but I will settle for a solid if my lack of experience with metallic base/clear is big enough of a factor to chance ruining the job. I have painted with primer and single stage paint 10 or so times in my life. I had no problem with any of these jobs, but I want to start using base clear for a better look and longevity. I am just scared of blotchiness or mottling. Thoughts from young and old painters appreciated.
i really didnt see a question in there....painting a metallic color IMO sucks but if your doing a entire car its a lil easier. you need to make sure you air pressure dosent drop and your gun is super clean so you dont have weird flop of the metallic.
just like shocker said keep air pressure consistant, and be sure not to have any gun issues.....IMO i think white is one of the hardest colors to spray for me because its hard to see where your previous stroke was once you get the first coat on the car. Thats just me though i know people thats been doin it 25 years and say black is hardest to spray, but everyone has a tuff color to spray. I think that as long as you stay on top of it you should be fine with spraying the metallic. Hope that helps u some.
