Default Is my clutch shot?

Go to start my car after work, as the car is cranking it is also trying lurch forward. Reverse grinds trying to go in. The car goes thru the gears whil car is off just fine. Fluid levels are fine. Clutch has same firmness as I recall it ever having.

When I'm driving I can trucker-shift it w/out using the clutch.

There were ZERO warning signs of it failing. It drove to work fine, but didn't make it out of work fine.

Just as an FYI, it was flooding at work earlier and I drove thru water to the bottom of the bumper. I dont know if that would have done anything or not.

Sounds like it won't disengage. If the clutch was shot it would be slipping.

Well I don't don't think its clutch it sounds like a tranny issues. And I'm almost sure that trucker shifting isn't good for your syncros.

Yep.. like the pedal cant go down far enough. And about the slipping, thats EXACTLY what I thought. This clutch hasn't slipped on me once yet.

Actually, my previous hondas DID grind in reverse but not this one. I'm saying that when I try putting it in reverse it grinds because i'm only catching half the gear; the clutch wont fully disengage.
When I shift w/out the clutch, I can go thru all the gears. Its just a bitch if I have to stop since it wont go into first unless I'm stopped and I shut the car off.

The tranny is new and has shown no signs of error until this very day after work. Its something w/ the clutch or one of its systems for sure.

I'll have to look at that.. but why would this not pose as an issue until today after work?? It's strange it came out of the blue. And I'm pissed.

i think there's a nut that locks the pedal position...if it comes loose, things like that can happen...

No other input? I'm gonna check the adjuster out tomorrow, but what are the odds this is the clutch being blown?

Wow thats just wonderful man. I cant believe this ****ing thing. The clutch never slipped or otherwise that would tell me the clutch is going bad though, which really REALLY pisses me off.

To avoid grinding when going in to reverse, put trans in first gear, then syncros will line up, and it will easily slide into reverse.

your missing what I'm saying. This transmission does NOT grind ANY gears. but since it's been broken, I cant put it in ANY gear and have to start the car in first gear and "trucker shift" it. I can TURN ON the car in reverse, but I cant shift to it since the clutch or something is ****ed up.

But yes the 1st-reverse trick worked on my HX

Well I had 2 honda heads look at the car today. I drove like 8 hours both ways to meet them. They said they are 75% sure its the slave cylinder. But it COULD be the throwout bearing.

So on my trip home, I pull up to a red light. Shut the car off, but it in first and wait. Light turns green, so I start the car and take of in 1st gear. There is a slight, odd, clunking noise coming from engine compartment somewhere. I continue on. I pull up to another red light a few miles later. Go thru the same procedures, only this time as I"m pulling away, there is another metallic clunking noise (sounded like the motor slightly shifting or something I dont know) and now my clutch works fine! I drove home a few hundred miles with it working!!

What. The. ****. Is going on?

Wow thanks for reminding me! Actually, what happened was driving thru the deep water (over the front lip almost half way up the bumper) had somehow caused the clutch or something to seize. After several HUNDRED miles of driving, upon pulling up to a red light, it out of nowhere started working again.

does anyone have any input as to how to fix this? i cant see what is wrong with mine, removed the tranny and the clutch/release bearing/flywheel are all fine.

i replaced the release bearing and rebuilt the gearbox 2000km's ago
problem happened 2 days after a bit of "spirited" driving
there were no signs until it suddenly started do the same thing as OP

HELP!!!!

edit: to clarify, the clutch pressure plate/disc was not replaced as it was only 20 000km's old at that stage

even if it's working again, bleed the slave cylinder...might want to spray some lube at it...

bleeding the slave on my old protege5 was really easy.

just out of curiosity, did the clutch feel heavier when the release fork started to fail?

^thats right these cars have adjustable clutch pedals (though they aren't SUPPOSED be adjusted in the first place)

Honestly I've never found it, but they claim there is a bolt near where the pedal attaches to the firewall. Thats about all I know man
