tension on the timing belt?

Default tension on the timing belt?

having trouble with the tension on the timing belt any hint would help....also someone said lining the two lines up on the head is for the 1.5 and would make the d16 1 tooth retarded is that right?

Not exactly sure what the tension problem is that you are experiencing.
The Helm manual and factory service manual are your best bet for the best answer.
I hear you can find them on the internet in PDF form.
My guess is that you are forgetting to rotate the crank counter-clockwise 3 degrees after putting the belt on.

Install belt with tensioner held in "loose" position by tensioner bolt. > Loosen tensioner bolt so spring can take up the slack. > Rotate engine CCW a couple of turns. > Tighten tensioner bolt.

Yes on a d16 it is a tooth off. If you are looking at the cam gear the top of the gear needs to go one tooth toward the front of the car.

The manual says to loosen the tensioner and rotate the crank counter-clockwise 3 degrees
Which is about 3 mm. then tighten the tensioner.

I will always rotate the crank a few times around just to make sure it is going to have clearance and again turn it counter-clockwise.
