Why is an autobody paint job doesn't come close to a oem factory paint job? is it the technician, the paint, or the machine or what? my car is almost twenty years old, and some part of the body still look new. lets say i bring my car in for a $1,500 paint job, i know for sure it won't come out as nice as original. why is that?
Well, you have to remember, the refinishing market is completely different in nature to the production market. One major advantage the OEM has, is they get all the parts painted before anything is installed, namely the inner panels and engine bay. Not to mention that Robots paint most of their stuff. So they have a brand new surface to work with as well. The refinishing market has to paint over another paint, or start over, starting over cost alot, and no one wants to pay good money for a good paint job. If you go to a good place and pay what it's worth (there's no way 1500 is going to make the cut) I'm talking about spending 5-6 thousand on a re-finish, it'll last for just as long as the OEM, If not longer.
The 1500 dollar paint job is just something that you get done when you're not interested in getting in every little crevice and crack slash winning car shows.
