New vs Used, how much savings is worth it for used???
Guys I've found a couple of used SI's one is an 08 with 15k miles 17,000 even is what I've got the dealer down to...also there's an 09 with 5600 miles that I have them down to 18,800...I can get a brand new sedan SI for 20,300 so for 1500 dollars more I'm thinking I should get a new one...but what if I got the 09 for 17,750 or 18000? Worth the savings or not?
I can't decide, I also wonder how/why someone would sell a car or trade it with so few miles...there's plenty of legit reasons...anyways, I'd appreciate thoughts/feedback regarding new vs used.

well chances are a new car will get you a lower finance rate through the dealership as opposed to a used car. The interest you would pay financing a used car will pretty much be the same if not more than a new car (depending on your finance rate). Plus you'll be the first owner of the car so you know exactly what's happened to it. 20,300 seems pretty low for a brand new si sedan. I'd say go new!! Just remember, don't do an impulse buy.

Why do you say that?
I drove the used SI sedan tonight, assuming we can come to a price agreement tomorrow I may take it for a more extended test drive tomorrow.
There were some rock chips and a few minor scratches and a scuff, overall it was in good shape but it should be, for having only 6000 miles though, I felt the exterior was a bit rough, if it had 15 to 20k miles I'd say it was in great shape.
The car was bought at auction in Kansas City which makes me wonder 1) why was it at auction? Probably a repo and 2) why did no dealers in KC pick it up? 3) was it just totally raped for 6,000 miles?

i would go brand new. most people with cars like ours, usually beat them to sh*t before trading them in.
example, my friend had a 00 red em1, the day before it got re-po'd we were out with some soap and water holding the e-brake slamming 8500 rpm all day long.
another one, another friend traded in his evo to get an si sedan, the night before, we were doing wrc rally in the desert and awd donuts on some random deserted parking lot.
so if i were you, i would go brand new because with a used car, you never know what you're gonna get.

I'd say new. You would spend more upfront, but should something go wrong with the pre-owned car, you'll be paying the difference anyway. With a new car, there's no worry of something failing.

So, 15k miles is about $3k, making $17k the bare minimum to break even. Then you consider that a new car is... new, warranty will start fresh, and I'd say go for the new one
.I don't know why anybody buys a 1-3 yr old Civic, the resale prices are *ridiculous* - seems a far better deal to buy new at invoice at end of model year (plus interest rates are often lower).
if you plan to keep the car for a few years, buy new. If you're just looking for something that'll get you by, get a used one.
There's something about when you owned a car for 4yrs and you can say you are the original owner.

i bought used because the dealers in my area practically refused to come down from sticker on any of the Si models on the lot! it was crazy i have never seen a dealership, let alone dealerships say "no its sticker plus tax, title, and lic. anyhow i scored a 08 habenaro red Si sedan w/ navi, factory fogs, and a few other factory/dealer installed goodies for $16500 and it had 11k on it. was thee best deal on a used one with in 100miles of my house. but to each there own deals are out there both new and used you just gotta look. goodluck to you
Guys at the used place have come down a lot, the difference between used and new is now 2500 bucks. which gives me a lot to think about this weekend...new dealer is running out of stock on 09s and is going to call me today with white and blue pricing assuming he can find a dealer that will trade, but the local dealer sold its white one earlier this week so the price is going up a few hundred bucks to compensate them for trading with another dealer.
You need to get what KBB says the trade value is and take off $3,000 off that price and this will give you a rough idead of what a dealer acquired the vehicle for.
Dealers no longer give "trade value" on vehicles, they give you ACV which stands for "actual cash value," or better known as wholesale value, what the car would sell for at auction.
Also something to play on a new car is the 2% holdback Honda gives them. I'd refuse to pay DOC fee and I'd deduct 2% from MSRP and offer to buy the car for that. This is VERY reasonable.

Here's the link for the Black Book Auction value.
http://www.cudlautosmart.com/Researc...l=ToolsAndMore
If you are trading in a car, the dealer will not offer you the BlackBook Auction Trade-In value. He has to expect that he will not be able to sell it on his lot.
Then he will have to send it to an auction. If he gave you the auction value, he will not make any profit. So, he will give you $1,000.00 less that the current auction value.
If you are buying a used car from a dealer, you can look at the BlackBook Retail Price and hope that you can get it for that amount. He will start above full retail and you will have to work to get the price down (to full retail).
My 2008 SI TW sedan has 3200 miles. I looked it up on the above link and found out that it has an auction value of $17,080.00 (in my State of Missouri). If I tried to trade it in, the dealer would offer me $15,500 and and make me work hard to get the trade in value up to $16,000.
With that big down payment, you can get any bank or credit union to give you a loan. Buy one from a private seller.

I can't speak about Missouri, but I have been to more than a dozen auctions in Florida, California and Arizona and they all go by KBB wholesale guide. I have never seen an Si sell for more than $14k.
