Default this is getting annoying

ok, so, sometime, my hatch wont fire. the wire and plugs are fairly new, new distributor, new fuel filter, new fuel pressure reg. it runs fine when it starts. but sometime the b1tch wont fire. yesterday, i started it in the morning just to see if it would start, and it did. but when i was going to leave, it wouldnt start. so i left, and when i got back, my dad said it started right up twice. today, i went to see if it would start, it wouldnt. i tried 3 times in lets say .. 5 mins. but then i tried again, and it fired. im soooo confused by this. any imput?

if its the main relay, when its not firing it would either not click all or would be erradic clicking from the relay itself. if its doing the usual 3-4 clicks than it should be fine. i know theres a way to test and repair them, but not the procedure off hand. if its the starter than as i said before it will seem like nothings happening and 2 min later it would start. this was my problem and just out of dumb luck after tracing wires for a week i happened to try hitting the starter and it fired. im not an idiot and under normal circumstances would have checked the starter itself first, but it really gave me the signs of being something tricky in the wiring.

if it is then you won't hear it click. you wont hear the pump prime. and you wont see the check engine light come on and then turn back off. if this is happening and the motor is cranking over but not actually starting, then the main relay is most likely the culprit.

now if the relay appears to be working, and the engine simply refuses to even crank, then the starter solenoid or ignition switch is likely to blame.

I'm going with main relay too. Mine is doing the same thing you're saying sometimes, I just haven't had a chance to get in and fix it. It can be repaired if you've got the soldering skills. If not then check the link below or I'd say pick up a new one.
