Turbo GSR: ABS delete, engine bay shave/tuck and power steering tuck
I havnt seen too many tucked Teg bays... so I thought this might go wqell in here. I"m also removing the ABS as well as modifying a few other things... So don't move my thread plz
Long story short, my bro has been on my case about doing a wire tuck and shaving the engine bay for a long time. Well I finally caved. I decided it seemed like a GOOD idea to take a perfectly good, running car and tear the front of it apart just so it looks cool.
What was I thinking?!!!
It's gonna be awesome though. Here's what I've got goin on and what I'm doing:
- Weld and grind/all excess holes in the engine bay.
- Remove all the body/seam glue crap from the bay.
- Full wire tuck
- ABS delete/RS brake conversion.
- Paint the bay a bronz-ish color (havn't picked out the exact color yet, thinking about a Rota wheel bronze)
- Re-vamping my PCV system, installing prelude nipples in t3h back (dirty) and building/mounting my new catch can.
- Weld fittings on my valve cover so I can run lines to my catch can.
Here's where it gets kinda tricky...
- Tuck the power steering.
- Tuck AC.
I dunno if I can do the AC: Money is a big problem as I'm on a time crunch (car show on the 25th of Aug). But the power steering I'm pretty sure I can pull off. What I mean by tucking the PS is re-routing the big fat PS line that goes in front of the cam gears as well as hiding the reservoir. How am I gonna do that?
You'll have to wait and see. I dunno if it's even gonna work, but I've gotta try.
And to answer WHY I'm doing a shave'/tuck without removing the AC and PS: I drive my car and enjoy my creature comforts. Not only that, but everybody takes the easy route and deletes those components and I'm tryin to do somethin a lil diff and show people it can be done and still look good. Err... At least I THINK it can be done
We'll see.
Soooo.... Without further delay.. here's the progress along with pictarz!
This is Andrew.. The guy who got me to do this.. He likes showing off his balancing skiilz.

Work is getting underway..

No ABS! Didnt work anyway.

Random pics...

Messy..

Random pic.

Cousin in law persons dog.. Can't remember his name. Full Blooded Husky. Beautiful. Pound for pound one of the strongest animals on the planet.

So we had to get the cherry picker from one shop to the other somehow!
Gettin ready to be removed...

And it's out!

Eww.

Gettin it done baby! Me in the engine bay messing something up, I'm sure.

Yay, me working again.

So when I started, I didnt think we'd be removing the goopy seam sealer stuff... But we are.

Nasty.

My very dirty, underpowered engine.

And after a simple green/scrub/pressure wash bath...

Gotta have the JDM tilt in there!

So, 14 hrs later and thats where I am. Lots left to do.. lots more pics and updates to come!
Try not to flame too hard, plz.. My feelings may get hurt
Oh, BTW.. I picked up the RS lines from a local junkyard, with the master cylinder for $48.00

looks good. i just did mine. and a week later i traded it
Are you gonna tuck your brake lines? clutch line? If you go to a local autoparts store you can buy a 5-6ft section of line with fittings and everything so you can reroute it(clutch line) and make your bay look better. you're doing good though.

Yeah, tucking the clutch line.. gonna be a SS braided line. Lots of braided stuff. I think it looks super clean and really nice.. I'll try to make as much braided as possible, without looking stupid (fine line there).
Here's some update pics!
So these are pics from Monday. Just a pic of what was in t3h yard.

A sexy lil GSR Rex.

And Jellybean! Her first trip out of town

This here is Andrew beating the seam that goes along the firewall flush. When you remove the OEM goop sealer stuff, a rather large "V" channel is left. We decided it would look better flush.

Some moar welding.

Some action grinding shots!

And the results of action grinding!

How about some action welding shots?

-----------------
Tuesday!
A pic of Andrews ride. 07 SI.

How about an SIR GOlf Cart? JDM Powah FTW.

So Andrew and another guy had some work to do in the shop.. I was grinding at the time and they kicked me out because it was too loud and they "couldnt hear themselves think" so I decided to clean up t3h engine.
Before:

After:

Simple Green concentrate + pressure washer and a lil scrubbing FTW! I cleaned it up a lil more after these pics also. Pressure washers are awesome.
A sad pic of my baby all under construction. Will she ever run again?
Of course
Actually, looks like she was stolen and stripped.

A couple of pics of the grinding I did manage to finish. Still have to clean em up a lil but, but you get the idea.

Not done with the passenger side yet.

There use to be a hole there

And a pic of a n00b AFTER I had cleaned up some

SO, thats it for now. Moar pics to come!

Well, it's been a while, but I havn't given up. Just havn't been updating this thread. Main work goes on in my build thread in my sig, but here's some pics in case somebody stumbles upon this later!

And a random pic of MY miniature Parrotlet (Goblette) ravaging a strawberry. It's kinda funny, after she eats a strawberry she smells like one. Just a random tidbit.

So, this Thursday I'm going back to the junk yard and see if I can get a part for my Del Sol. But my main goal is to get brake lines made. What I mean by this is replacing the hard lines that go to the proportion valve /master cylinder w/braided SS lines. Should look sexy :]
And if I have enough I'm going to get my clutch line braided SS as well.
Moar updates as they come!
And just a lil timeline of my engine bay.

I've come a long way! The paint is Bronze Metallic, from an early 90's Caddy :]
Moar to come! I'm looking forward to my power steering tuck. Thats gonna look good. AC tuck will come later, as I'm going to have to have custom line built.

damn, i wish i lived around your area....i'd be over there doing the exact same thing to my sol. hahaha bump it up and props for you!
A lil teaser pic
The pic does not do the paint justice in the lighjt. It's like a dark silver/gray out of the light, but a metallic gold/brown/gray almost greenish in the light. It's beautiful. Shame my prep doesn't do it justice.

And this.. This almost brings a teartomy eye. It's not final, as I just stuck it all up to see what it looked like, but man... It looks so much better I think :]

Clearify this for me. You arnt going to running all SS line from your clutch master to slave, and how much SS are you going to be using in your breaks.
I would never replace hard lines with SS. The SS being stronger than soft line still flexes. And when you use to much I've heard as little as 2.5 ft the pedal feel will be horrible. You wont get the feedback you want from the brakes or clutch system.
Just a bit of advice. Good luck with the build wire tuck and shaving isnt my cup of tea but it looks good.

My bro bought some hard lines so I think were gonna do that. I'd really like to do at least the lines going from the master cylinder to the proportion valve SS.
We'll see.
And shaving the bay isn't my cup of tea either
Ok that should be fine. A buddy of mine did SS lines from the clutch master to slave and it felt like crap. Small amount shouldnt matter.
So, I went to Napa, pulled out a 6" thick book of paint colors and started flipping through them. I noticed as I got earlier and earlier (say 1995,1994,1993) they had actual pieces of plastic painted instead of just the color printed on a sheet of paper.
And I just narrowed it down. I had a few dark silver metallics picked out, actually a list of about 5 different colors which I would have been happy with. But I figured this was a bronze and thats what I wanted soooooo... Thats what I got!
I'm very pleased with it. Looks much better in person than it does in pics. Next time I got out, I'm taking my wifes DSLR camera and get some high quality pics :]
