i just recently purchased an 89 crx si with a 91 ls motor. my problem is when i turn the key i hear a click from the starter and it wont start. it will start after turning the key a bunch of times. but tonight it stopped working completely. i replaced the starter with an extra and its still just clicking. what can i do?
Take the starter and have it checked, it sounds like either the battery might be shot or the solenoid isn't kicking out the gear to turn the flywheel. I would make sure that your battery terminals aren't loose or anything. Does it make a sound like a dead battery would like a cliiiiiiiiiick?
My car would click and I found out the battery terminals just needed some good old cleaning off, been fine ever since.

i checked the battery connections. they appear good. i tested the wire on the starter from the ignition switch and it gets power when i turn the key to crank. i took a jumper cable and hooked it to the bolt that mounts the starter and put the other end to the shock tower. the battery is relocated but the previous owner did it. any ideas guys?

i added 3 grounds from tranny to chassis and 2 off the battery. the grounded it somewhere behind the back trunk panel. i just had my battery tested and it was good. i changed the terminals because the old ones were beat to hell. im out of ideas
It still sounds like a bad starter. The solenoids on them can fail or they can just have a dead spot. The battery could also still be a culprit. How did you have it tested? A battery can still read 12 volts and be bad. If the cells are shot in the battery it could still have full voltage but have almost no amperage. It would be enough to run accessories in the car but when the starter goes to draw most of the amps it would just fail. Without being able to run the tests on it I can't really give you a solid answer. I would imagine there is a starter relay but with your setup I don't know for sure. That could also cause an issue.

ok so the battery should be good. its fairly new. i had it tested at at autozone. he said it tested at 13 volts. the wierd thing is that when i jump started my car with someone else's it started right up. could this be a ground issue or can it still be the starter?
So it started with someone else's power supply then? If that is the case I would definately focus on the battery more. Like I said the voltage can read good but the battery still be bad. Lets face it, Autozone is not known for being the best place to diagnose a car. I can't tell you how many times people would come into the shop and say Autozone told them what was wrong with their car and it be completely incorrect. Just to be sure I would try and jump it again with someone elses car. If it works then shut it off and try it several more times. If it starts every time then its probably not the starter. It is possible to have a faulty newer battery. I have installed brand new batteries in customer cars before and they not work right.

ok so i got a new battery and a new starter. i put the new starter on and it started. i turned it of and back on it started again. i tried it again and it clicked again like before. then i did it again and it stopped clicking. im out of ideas
are the contact parts on the chassis full metal or is there paint on where ground is at. clean the ground part on the chassis with a wire brush. make the ground is clean and has full contact. check your power ire for cuts and short.
Check all of your grounds again, try grounding your battery somewhere else.
If that doesn't help: Replace the cable running from your battery to the starter, it probably is toasted. The one I used to put my battery in the hatch was out of a Caddilac CTS, they keep their battery under the rear seat. It was about 2-3 feet longer than I needed. Go down to a wrecker they will probably sell you one for $10 and it has the post terminal on it already with a ring terminal on the other end.

is the click coming from under the hood or inside the car...if its inside the car then it might be ur main relay i had this problem in my 91 integra...switched out and walla it starts
