Default d16y8 ticking

So I had a couple bad valves on cylinder 1 from an accident. So I pulled the head and had 4 new valves put in. I reinstalled the head 2 weeks ago and found out the mechanical timing was a tooth off. Tore the side down again and the timing is right on now. However I have an annoying tick and it blows a little smoke out of the exhaust but no check engine lights. I was told there might not be enough oil in the lifters which could cause the tick or maybe a valve adjustment. Any other ideas, things to check, or do I need to pull the head again and bring it back.

i'd start with adjusting the valves... "always start with the cheapest & easiest things"

actually it sounds like a few things. firt of all u only put 4 valves in. were they OEM valves or aftermarket? if you got knock off brand valves i will bet the pink slip to one of my rides that that no new valve guides and seals were used. and those valves might be the wrong length. the might look the same to the old ones but u need a micrometer to tell the difference. if they are to short thats where u are getting ur ticking from since the valve lash is out of spec. if ur keeping the car and are on a budget i would just get a full head job on it with new valves, springs, retainers, guides and seals
