Default f20b in 97 prelude

i have a 97 prelude that my mechanic has just told me is basically unrepairable, so i am trying to find out if a f20b engine will bolt to my h22 sh 5 spd tranny, also how much of a difference there is in the wiring, and if there is a big difference if it will simplify anything by using my h22 head. ive searched this and keep finding different answers, any help would be appreciated as i really need this car going.

Just find another H22, F20B doesn't have the torque u need to move the sled that is a prelude.

agreed and your hp will be for the most part the same just a higher reving motor but no low end they also have the edm h23 vtec that will push your sled and is nice eye candy

wiring is mildly different with the SH and the head has nothing to do with it. heads are the same. BUT, if you change the motor. What ecu will you use?

Stay with the H22....

The SH trans is useless to you - you'll need an engine and trans, maybe base axles as well.

The F20B will swap over fine, you'll have enough parts from your H22 to borrow if needed.

I agree. Get another H22A4 from an SH and just drop it in. It's the most cost-effective choice while maintaining ATTS.

You should have gotten a base.

Don't have to worry about a specific block. I know a guy with an Accord that bought an SH swap...had to sell that **** for $300. It goes both ways. If you have the motor...chances of someone needing that specific one is low. if you have a SH body, chances of finding SH block easily is low. I made absolutely sure my shell was a base before I bought.

And those talking about the low end. H22 in a 5G Lude doesn't feel good in town anyway. People in random Bonnevilles, Intrepids and whatever pull away from lights quicker only revving to maybe 1800. You cant even hear their cars. You still have to rev to like 3K...with tighter gearing.

alright there is alot of crap information in here.

since your car is an sh, you will either need to; buy another h22a4 motor, or buy an h22a type s motor.

if you want to get the f20b, which is a great motor. it has iron sleeves unlike the shitty h series sleeves and boasts 11:1 compression. to do this swap you will need to buy a non sh trans. which is fine. that gives you the opportunity to run an m2b4 trans.
