Can I put brighter light bulbs in my stock housings?

And if so, what are the brightest I can put in them? I dont care about what colors they are, I just want the maximum light output (read: ability to see the road) w/ just purchasing bulbs.

Your PT Cruiser uses 9006 low-beam bulbs. One of the best and least expensive upgrades is the 9012 HIR bulbs, which will fit your housings with only very minor trimming of the new bulb. You can find the 9012 here:

You can use the 9011 in your high beams if you want, though it may or may not be worth the improvement depending upon how often you use them.
As for light output, the following is a rough guide:
Stock 9006 halogen = approximately 1000 lumens
Toshiba 9012 HIR = approximately 1875 lumens
Philips D2S HID capsule = approximately 3200 lumens
