another stolen type R
yep, my R was stolen last weekend while I was on vacation in Missouri visiting my dad. We left the car at his house while we spent a week at the lake. I figured it would be fine because they pretty much live out in the middle of nowhere in a wooded area, so nobody would have known it was there. Little did I think that the step-nephew of my dads girlfriend, who was staying behind to feed and watch the animals would do anything. I guess my mistake was leaving my keys in their house, I hid them but apparently he found them. Anyway, to make the longer story short after he stole the car we heard that later that night he was running from the cops and got away but later he must of done something to the engine because it stopped. So he ditched the car on the side of the road and the police found it later that morning. He broke off the rear view mirror, the turn signal dial was in the passenger seat when I looked at the car, the top cover for the steering wheel was broken off, the alarm siren was cut. My valve cover was off and the car wouldn't start. The front bumper was cracked and dents were in the drivers side door and the hinge thing was broken so the door wouldn't close right. The insurance company wants to total the car but i really dont want to. I was told by the repair place that they would have to replace the whole engine. They weren't even able to get the thing started, so I dont think they know exactly what is wrong with it. It was like over $10,000 in damages. What would you guys do? I only had this car for like 4 months and it sucks ***** that I have to deal with this

Well I'm not sure how "theft recovery" status works exactly but if you go through your insurance it will be labeled a theft recovery. If you avoid using your insurance is it still a theft recovery? I don't know if you can deal with having a theft recovery title. It kills the value of your car and basically makes it not collectible any longer. A lot of theft recovery vehicles become track cars. Your options are likely A) take the insurance money and buy another R and someone will buy your theft recovery to track it. B) take the insurance money and buy a different car. C) Possibly repair the damage yourself and avoid having theft recovery title, but I'm not sure about that one.

That sounds like an expensive route. It could be failing to start for something as simple as a missed shift bending valves. Does the car try to turn over when you crank it? Have you checked fluids to see if there is coolant or anything in the oil etc? Where are you located? Maybe a knowledgable R owner from on here can swing over to have a look. PS please post pics.
Sorry to hear this happened. At least she was recovered un-stripped and you know who is responsible. Vengeance is bliss. What is his side of the family planning to do to help you out??
Pull the motor yourself and send it to a trustworthy shop. Don't let insurance total it out for this mild stuffs....assuming the motor is rebuildable.

dang sorry to hear about the loss. i know its been said but extra help is always welcome. since its original, find out why it isnt turning over. no matter the cost. itr's should be kept stock imo. the perfect dd. if you find out the motor is gonna cost a little too much than you thought, buy another back up motor that'll run for a while and save up to rebuild your original motor
