Default Help with a 1990 Civic

I come seeking help, As I am not car saavy.

I have a 1990 Honda civic 4 Cyl. with a 1.6 L engine? 5 speed manual

Well when ever the engine seems to be under a load as in trying to pull it's self up a hill, it seems to bog down and lose all power.
This is happening a lot to me in 5th gear on the highway doing 70, it bogs down to 65, and seems to lose all power.

I ran some fuel injector cleaner through it and it seemed to work on the way to work, but on the way home it started to act up.

I really don't know which direction to go with this.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

what size hill are you talking about. these motors dont have much torque. try down shifting.

how many miles are on the engine?
is the car smoking at all?

when was the last time the car had a tune-up? plugs, wires distrub. cap and rotor, fuel filter, etc...

i would start there

Granted i know these cars don't produce much in torque.
I tried downshifting to no resolve.

The car has a lot of miles...
Around 264K.
Car is not smoking at all.
So just start at the regular maintenance type of things?

start with new plugs/wires/dist cap/rotor.

i had similar issues on my 91 LX i purchased a couple months ago and replacing this seemed to fix it for me.

and you can do all this yourself with minimal technical experience

do a compression test and see if your motor is still healthy.
timing could have jumped also, so check/change out your timing belt, water pump, tensioner and all that good stuff.

but do compression test first so you'll know what to spend your money on, feel me?

goodluck

Welp, it looks like my car will be biting the dust soon.
Apparently it was super low on oil even though i added some the other day, and i added some after finding this out.
Sounds like a lawn mower now..
I gues because it's running off 3 cyl or so.
because i changed the spark plugs to find the covered in oil.
I know next would be the gasket for the valve cover?
I am not very car saavy sorry.

but :[
kinda sucks as this is my first car and i hate to see it go.
