First off, the only thing I knew about radio's approximately a couple of weeks ago is that they make sound, and yes, i've studied up quite a bit in the last week or two on audio based stuff. So yeah, i'm catching on.
I got a repo car and the dude that used to have it obviously wanted the stereo and his amp. So I got the missing parts out of my wrecked 96 teg.
About the 96 model teg stereo installed in my 00 gsr, it works, but I guess stock'ish. I plugged right in. Clarity is there, but wow, I think my 00 gsr came with a cd player from the factory, which is really expensive, and could sound better. I think!
Also, the rear left speaker is missing, and the rear right was replaced by a 3 or 4-way (whichever it is lol) Sony Xplod unit. My car has factory tweeters and mid's (or the stock stuff otherwise).
Now, i'd like quality sound, not ultra loud sound. When I listen to music or a radio show, I want clear and crisp quality. Besides the obvious, which would be to get a speaker in the left rear. How do I know that my car's original cd player wouldn't send a higher watt rating to the speakers? I mean, what if the 96 teg stereo is just not putting enough through my speakers?
It sounds okay, but I want it to be perfect, with an even better audio imaging or whatever the dude put in his article on Crutchfield's website.

I would trash the sony speakers and go for some infinity reference speakers sounds good with factory radio, better with a good after market radio. I like the infinity's because they sound the best to my ear and wallet. With these and almost all of the entry level speakers you won't need any amps the headunit should provide enough.
As for better audio imaging if you have the space for it the easiest thing that anyone can do is cut a ring to fit the speaker cut it in half and shave the ends so that it looks like a V then mount it in with speaker and try to angle speaker towards listener. Or find someone or a shop to do some custom work if you want really good imaging.

I did some more testing today and came up with the assumption that with the car being the way it is with tweeters (factory dome tweeters), and the rest of the factory speakers, the mids to highs sound okay, but the lows aren't great at all.
Thanks for the reply.
