Default Chassing starting prob...HELP!!

A little info on the car...

90 si hatch with z6 swap and 90 crx si trans

obd1 convertered with p28

any who...i was having probs with the car starting..it would sound like it was grinding really bad when i turned the key..so i replaced it with junkvanced starter #1..when i put that starter in it would just sound like it was spinning when the key was turned..so i took it off and well the gear that comes out wasnt coming out far enough to engage the fly wheel...so starter # 2 goes in and its doing what the original starter was doing.

I added some grounds thinking that was the prob but no fix..so i tested the small wire that attaches to the solenoid and im only getting 5 volts there when the key is turned..hence the "grinding" sound..its the solenoid not get enough power.

If i bridge the starter it starts just fine.

Could this be another starter issuë? Bad relay? Key switch?

I get 14 volts the main power from the battery to the starter so im lost here..never had this prob..any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks alot!

no all d series flywheels and starters are the same thats not the problem. i would take the starter to the store to get it checked for free to confirm your not getting enough power to it. i would guess bad connection or possibly bad ignition switch.

in the manual it says for 1.2kw and 1.4kw you should be getting 8 cranking volts and for 1.0kw 8.5, and current draw . if not check the following .....

battery charge and connections
open circuit in starter armature commutator segments
starter armature dragging
shorted armature winding
excessive drag in the engine
