emmisions help 1991 EF SI
ok so ive taken 3 emmissions tests now... failed all 3... the first one horibly and the other 2 tests passed exept in 1 section
3RD test and the closest so far...
HC (PPM)cruise limit= 180 My result= 121 *PASS*
HC (PPM)Idle Limit= 220 My result=302 *FAIL* really bad
CO (%) cruise limit= 1.3 My result= 0.18 *PASS*
CO (%) Idle Limit= 1.2 My result= 0.44 *PASS*
i live in washington and thats all they test for...
my car is a 1991 hatch SI with a d16y7 motor from a 1999 civic... runs really good
its got a full 2.5in. exhaust from DC header with new cat and everything put on like a month ago... cold air intake... and exhaust leak were the 4-2 meats with the 2-1 on the header... could that be it i dont think so...
i really need your guys help my tabs are already bad and i have to drive my car to work every day and dont want a ticket... thanks in advance

i bet its the header. when i lived in california my friend failed smog with a dc header and the smog guy told him put the stock one back on and try it again and it passed no problem. i dont remember witch part he faild on though. you should always ask the smog guy why it didnt pass when it fails they usually know alot about it.
ya i had some dumb bitch doing the test that stalled my car and almost rolled it into the metal guard on the side of the wheel rollers... and when i asked her she said she didnt know shes not a mechanic... sooo idk... why would the header do that??? its got an 02 sencer on it and everything...
not sure i didnt think it would make it pass either but the guy at the smog shop said it has to do with the metal its made out of because the stock cast one is thicker it doesnt get as hot something like that. i was just letting you know what ive seen in person that a dc header wont pass smog. but then again thats california not washington.

And the header question answer is it moves the O2 sensor farther from the motor. So it takes longer to get to it's correct temp and start working correctly. Also the header cool's down the exhaust before the exhaust gets to the o2 sensor.
EDIT: The DC header will pass smog or it would not have been issued a CARB sticker. As for cracking, you have to have either a flex hose or the donut gasket to allow for motor movement back and forth.

ya i dont know........ i was thinking it was maybe the timing or something??? but i dont know and dont want to waist another 15 bucks on an emmissions test unless its gunna pass...

i dont personaly know a single person that passed smog with dc header or any header with a carb sticker. most smog shops where i lived in california wouldnt even smog it even with a carb sticker.

but my old teg passed emissions with a ebay header and stock headerback exhaust...
