Default exhaust leak after replacing header 56k warning

Ok, im having this nasty pre-muffler sound on my exhaust. at first i thought it was a leak between the downpipe and the pipe before the oxygen sensor (95 accord EX) well... it turns out its happening towards the end of the pipe, before the muffler, but at a spot there isnt a gasket, just pipe and some hemp looking thing. pic here:

sorry about the large size, just want to be sure you can see it. Ok, in that exact spot it leaks, and i DO NOT want to replace my muffler, not until later. what exactly is that round hemp thing? also, can i just put straight pipe there, and weld it to that spot and to my muffler instead? gets rid of that noise, and keeps the stock exhaust. Thanks.

edit: i tried to put 56k warning in the topic afterwards, its not saving for me.

what yr car is this?
it sounds like possibly the flex pipe is leaking
if it is a 90-93 Accord the dog bone mount (in the front by the battery) being broken can cause the flex pipe to break or leak
