Hi, I need help, I'm hearing a knocking sound whenever my car goes down down on a low curb side of the road or on a small pot hole (around 2" deep), any idea on what it is, will it be the ball joint?

 

Lift the car in the air with a shop lift or jackstands and check all ball joints for freeplay. If there is perceptible play in any of the four front ball joints (one upper and one lower on each side), replace the joint immediately. Also check the tie rods for play in both the inner and outer joints, and inspect the front upper control arm inner pivot bushings, the sway bar endlinks, sway bar bushings, and upper shock mount bushings. The lower control arm bushings aren't often bad, but check them as well. Make sure the coil springs have no broken coils.

 

Hey, thank you for your immediate reply, I will check those this weekend, since I'm gonna still use the car for a week or two, will it be safe to use the car let say with the bad ball joint?

 

also check your cv joints thrie noise is heard when you make a sharp turn at low speed
