Default S2000 Exhaust advice

Ok so I'm torn so I figured I would look here for advice/suggestions. A kid in my town has a Amuse R1 Titan no resonator single exhaust for a S2000 with about a years usage on it or so and he is only asking $450 for it and I see it retails for $1,600 new. Now the catch is he said it needs about a inch of piping added to it which I am unsure about exactly what he means. Going to look at it this weekend but would would you do, seems like a good deal although I have my mine set of a J's Racing or Spoon N1...

Spoon N1 - unless that exhaust is branded then I wouldn't go with it!

Buy new... or better yet stick with OEM!!!

Bump for Jim - he's a solid guy....

That's a HELL of a deal for the Amuse. I'm not sure what he is talking about adding piping or whatever. It's really more of a race exhaust though, and is very very loud. I would still buy it and see how you like it, I see them go for 1k used all the time.

Is it 70MM? If so and you do buy it and don't like it, I will buy it off you

Of all the ones I've tried I'd go with a Tracy or Amuse setup. Of course I'm a JDM addict. I would NOT get a J's as I have heard (even from companies that sell them) that their fitment and quality is poor. The Spoon doesn't make much power FYI.

incorrect information. I have owned two J's Racing titanium exhausts, both from Evasivemotorsports.com. Their fitment and quality is top notch.

Also consider T1R, I have had 3 of them over the years on various cars. Currently am running the T1R 70R V3 on my S2000 AP1 with a test pipe and LOVE it!

NOT incorrect information. However it's funny you mention having the T1r 70r V3. I have that exact exhaust on my S2000. It's fitment is not all that great. It rubs on rear bumper a bit (this may be just on AP2's, I'm not sure). The spot it rubs on has burned about 1cm wide mark that is about 7mm deep after about 12k miles with it on the car. This is one of the main reasons I want to replace my rear bumper now. When I do I'll probably sell the T1r for uber cheap or just give it to somebody. The T1r testpipe that came with it has the O2 bung pointing at about a 45degree angle down... so far that at stock height it was damaging my O2 sensor and I had to have a new bung welded in. The location of the O2 bung T1r put in is just plain stupid. It makes it hang more than an inch lower that any other spot on the car. This issue is a known problem, so much so that the T1r seller I got it from has a protocol for how to deal with this problem once the customer calls and complains. Last I checked they said they were considering not even selling the test pipe. I really don't consider that "great fitment". You might want to check your O2 sensor... I'd be amazed if it isn't damaged.

See here. Look at the photos 3rd, 4th and 5th from the bottom. FYI, mine is black as it has a Jet Hot black thermal coating on it.

If the thread opener is after JDM parts then T1r is not for him as it is all Chinese stuff. It is the only part on my car that I plan on replacing. That all said it is loud as hell which is awesome as long as you don't ever want to talk on a cell (with our without a headset) and if you don't mind droning on the hwy.

As for a seller telling you the J's has good build quality of course he says that. Others (who sell J's parts too) have said this isn't the case. Off the top of my head Ben and Mike from Bulletproof, who sell J's stuff, openly say that it's quality is below that of many other brands they carry. Heck, just check out some Best Motoring or similar videos with J's cars... I've seen more than one blow up. Not that an exhaust system was at fault. The vid with the J's S2000 catching on fire was caused by crappy welding on a header that cooked the engine bay.

If I were him I'd check out the condition on the Amuse exhaust he mentioned and get that if it's good. That price is a total steal for what I think you'd have to agree is a great product.

link to the s2000 that catches fire please? if youre referring to the yellow one that was racing against the spoon s2000 and the c-ken s2000, then it was the motor that actually blew up due to over-revving

but if you still feel that j's racing products arent good quality... youre more than welcome to come over and loook at my exhaust, and my friends j's header, and another friends j's intake

so it's not the exhaust systems fault, but rather poor header welding, that J's isn't good enough? That doesn't make sense that you would bring up their engine blowing in that battle just to avoid a j's product, when you yourself said it wasn't the exhaust systems fault. (isn't the header part of the 'exhaust system'......?)

Like stated before it was due to over revving. J's products are great from what I've read on s2ki (minus the rattling that i believe has been taken care of). there's PLENTY of feedback via threads on almost all products out there for our cars.

g/l with the amuse deal..

I think that any car depsite the parts used would catch fire or blow up if beat on too much. In this case it just so happened to be a J's car

Maybe somebody could give me alittle help since we're on the exhaust topic. Im looking for the best exhaust under $1000, something thats not very loud but has a good sound to it. And the best power gain. Any suggestions are welcome. Kinda new to the s2000. I had an mr2 turbo before some im trying to learn alittle somethin.

off the top of my head I would check out both of these. Both are dual the only thing is the t1r is a little over $1000. But I've heard good things about both of these as far has having decent sound and performance without being too loud.
