How do I bar my civic
Well I just got a 93 hatch and looking to get a b16 or b18 in it. i want to have everything legal so I was wondering how much does it cost to get my car legal with either engine and how do i start the process...
well i heard that u have to put a newer motor into your car so since urs is a 93..ur gona have to put a newer b18 maybe a 94-95 gsr or if ur gonna get a
b16 ur gonna have to get the del sol b16 or 99 civic si b16 but id rather stick with a obd1 motor so maybe a 94 95 gsr or 95 ls(cheaper) much easier and just make sure ur swaps clean no lose wires have the right ecu and just make sure it passes emissions and etc. u take it to the bar and (they dont smog the car at the bar places ne more like they usually do so) they check to see if everythings done right no ghetto rigs then they;ll slap a sticker on ur car then u bring it smog i think so it could pass the emissions test...im not sure but thats what happened when my friend bard a 95 gsr motor into his 92 eg.

Well Thanks for the advice and most likely i'll go with the 94 95 GSR. As for the question I was making is. Do you have to pay for anything extra for the Bar. Like fees and how much. Is it worth it?
i heard in cali u guys cant put a different engine series in yur car, example: gsr teg u can only put jdm b18c, eg si : d16z6 u can put like a jdm d15b
The motor has to the year or newer than the car, and it has to be the same OBD. There are no fees for BAR any longer. The motor has to be USDM, no longer accepting JDM motors. They only check for wiring, ecu, functional CEL, and other minor stuff, after you get the BAR label if you pass inspection, you have to take it to a regular smog station.

Thanks for the info... So it has to be American not JDM. So which B18 is the american one. The B18C1 or B18B?
Where do I go to get all of this started.. the inspection?
Do I need to install the engine first then get it barred or go inform them that I want to do it first?...

a B18C1 is a usdm gsr.. and a B18B1 is a usdm LS .. B18c and B18b are jdm motors, no go for BAR... put the motor in first then call the BAR office and schedule and appointment.. (800) 952-5210 or 800–622–7733 not sure which one, but its one of those two..
Thanks man, it's good to have these forums so that i can learn all this stuff... I'lll probably be buying a B18C1 very soon and i'll make sure its all legal and then I'll give them a call..... THANKS AGAIN>>>> you've been a lot of help...
no problem dude.. im on my 4th bar'd car so its nothing new to me although it did change from the first time i did mine.. but if you have any other questions just PM ill be glad to help you out
I believe Ur also going to need the cat from the car ur getting ur motor from... Ive been to state ref like three times and he recommended me to get a b16a for my eg...
yeah you need a cat to go for the motor... but ref no longer smogs cars, just inspects them, so idk if they would trip about the cat belonging to the motor.. just play it safe and get the corresponding cat like EG'SUS said..
gonig to Bar cost NOTHING unless y pass then you pay $8.25 for the sticker that say the motor u have now in the car is legal
whatever motor your putting into that car, you will be trying to convert the car over to what THAT motor originally came from..ex if you drop in a gsr u will need everything to be gsr
i heard the new rule was that you CANT put b18s into civics anymore bcuz civics never originally came with 1.8L only 1.6L...i am not postive on this but u might wanna talk to a ref..

INTEGRA GSR WITH B18C1 CAN INSTALL A JDM B18C IN TO IT AS LONG AS IT HAS THE PROPER EMISSION EQUIPMENT.
CIVIC WITH D15B7 CAN INSTALL A JDM D15B
DEL SOL WITH B16A3 CAN INSTALL A B16A
AND SO ON

THEY ARE NOT SAYING JDM MOTORS ARE NO LONGER TOTALLY ALLOWED, THEY ARE JUST NOT ALLOWED IN VEH. THAT WERE NOT ALREADY EQUIPED WITH IS USDM SISTER MOTOR.
IN THE END YOU CAN STILL DO WHATEVER MOTOR SWAP YOU WANT IN YOUR VEH. AS LONG AS YOU USE THE OLD LAWS ALREADY STATED AND THE NEW AS IT CAN ONLY BE USDM MOTOR IF THE VEH. WAS NOT ALREADY EQUIPED WITH THAT MOTOR.
EX.
1990 CIVIC WITH JDM B16A NO NO NO!!!
1990 CIVIC WITH USDM B16A3 OR B16A2 OR B18C5 OR B18C1 BLAH YES YES YES!!!

I don't think displacement matters cause i bar'd my k20a2 in my eg, BUT you can't bar a crv motor (b20) cause technically it's considered a suv motor (not allowed in a passenger car)
That is incorrect. Engine must be same year or newer (with a few exceptions), no truck engines into cars, no JDM engines. Other then that, your fine. Up until recently, JDM engines would pass also. I'm not sure why they suddenly decided to be ****** about it.
I believe this is incorrect. You can use JDM motors if they are a direct replacement
Japanese Replacement Engines
Used engines imported from Japan can be used as replacement engines as long as the engine being used has been identified as functionally identical to the original engine. Please refer to the engine importers catalogue to determine if a replacement engine is legal for installation in your vehicle.

Restated differently, if you own an Integra, you can swap in a JDM B18C. If you own a Civic, you can swap in a JDM B16A, but you cannot swap in a JDM B18C because Civics never came with B18s in the US. However, if the B18 is from a USDM Integra, you can swap that motor into a Civic.
