97 Accord EX 4cyl engine options
I'd like to start by saying that this has board has been a tremendous help to me over the years. I have never had the need to start a thread until now; search has been all the help I needed.
I have a 97 Accord Wagon EX with the 4 cylinder engine. In a recent unfortunate event, the pulley on my tensioner froze and caused my timing belt to shred, and therefore some of the valves to meet the pistions. Also, my crank sensor was broken in all this.
So I am in the market for a new engine. I have had good luck with JDMs in the past. I have been told, though, that the F22 from Japan would need to have the oil pump and crank sensor swapped from the old engine. Since I don't have a good crank sensor this is a problem.
However, I have also been told if I got the F23A JDM that it would come with a crank sensor and that it would be a direct drop into my 97 EX. Is all this true?
I really appreciate all the past help, and hope you are able to advise me now.

Interesting. I have called several importers and they all said the JDM F22's didn't have the crank sensors at all. I will give them a call tomorrow. Their price is pretty good too. Thanks.
The more I read it seems the F23A would not be a simple drop in into the 97 Ex. I will ask them that tomorrow too.

Well I just got off the phone with tigerjapanese. They say the f22b would need to have my crank sensor and oil pump moved to it. Also, the say the f23a wouldn't work. I don't know what to do.
After many phone calls and conversations I am nearly sure the f22b jdm would need the crank sensor and the oil pump from the old engine, and the f23a would not. That fact, combined with the assurance that swapping an f23a jdm into my 97 would be no more difficult than the f22b, has led me to purchasing a jdm f23a. I hope everything goes smoothly.
