Default question about air conditioning

any of you that know how to work on hondas i have a question about air conditioning. my ac belt broke, believe it was cause my compressor froze there's a catch it still spins but when i installed a new belt it was screaming like hell and it was not just cause the tensioner. i would lilke to know if any of you have had this problem and how you fixed if and i already put on a shorter belt just to the altenator and the crank pulley. i want my ac to work how do i fix it? do i have to remove all the power steering and the altenator then the compressor or is it possible that maybe it just needs freon to be put in. i have heard many different things from mechanics that don't specialize in honda's and the one's that do want to rip me off. thank you if you reply
