2002 Passport Died Wont Start
Hey,
Just like the title says, it wont start. My friend said that he was driving it and it sputtered a bit, and then died. Had it towed to his house, then let it sit for a month. He tryed puting a new baterry and changed the oil. Still nothing. Tryed jumping it, nothing. What should we check before towing it to my mechanic?? Its a V6 with 80,000 miles.
Thanks

There are plenty of avenues of approach.
Have you verified that it has fuel? Good fuel, not gelatinous one.
Have you checked the fuel filter?
What's the fuel level, and what kind of additives were put in, so it'd keep?
When was the timing belt done? The 3.2 is an interference engine.
Does the oil look milkey?
Is the fuel pump priming? Can you hear it?
Is there any pressure in the fuel lines?
If it sat for a month, that's plenty of time for gas to go bad. Also, trouble shooting is harder when you cannot pin point whether it's not starting because it's been sitting for a month (which isn't much for a healthy running car, but a burden on a dead one), or if the beginning underlying problem is still persistent.
What has your friend done since the tow truck dropped it off?
Has he checked to see whether it's a mechanical or sensorial problem?
Was there any check engine/malfunction indicator lamps? Are they still there?
Did it blink as he was driving?
What was the temp when he finally stopped?
Have you had the alternator bench tested?
Have you had the battery bench tested?
If it just sputtered and died, probably a fuel delivery problem.
If it sputtered and died with batt lights on, it sounds like a charging system problem.
If it sputtered and died with just the MIL/Check engine line on, there's probably a mechanical problem.
First step is to ensure that the battery and alt is good. Then check for fuel. And work your way back.
Good luck.

His dad brought a 'mechanic friend' over and he said the motor was stuck. He tried to turn it by hand but it couldn't.. Does that even make sense????
Anyway, I will update when I find out from my guy!
well, the motor is seized. My mechanic said that it was gonna be about 2200 to replce with a new one.
It makes me wonder how a fairly young Honda could have this issue. Does anyone know if there were any recalls concerning this on the 2002 Passports with 2.2 v6??
