This lude worth 4200?
Hey guys,
I'm in the market for either a prelude si/vetch or integra GSR. The prelude is more comfortable so i'm considering this one:

Its a 1994 prelude SI(no vtec
) I've seen interior pics, it's in great shape. Only real down fall is it hasn't had a timing belt change. I can do that myself but at a shop it would be a $600 job. Is it worth 4200? KBB is only 3500 in excellent condition.
thanks,
killr

All the money dumped into that car and it's 50-60k miles PAST the scheduled timing belt change? Pity.
I'd say it's not worth it.

Too much.
Wait for an H22 or get the gsr. Unless you have some kind of H23 build planned out that I don't know about, or don't really care about performance too much.

I do care about performance, no plans for an h23 build. I was mistaken orginally, i thought it either came with the h22, lower performance vs h23, or a VTEC. I suppose your advice is to wait for an h22 vtec, at 190hp vs the SI model at 160hp.
I'm kind of blown away by the visual aspect of this ride. Does the 30hp make that much of a difference?

I paid $1800 for my '93 S - The interior was in great shape, BUT - had to remove old window tinting (steam is the bomb!), the body has several dents and wear. It runs and drives great, but needed brakes turned and motor mounts.
In all, I have about $3000 in it and it still has a crappy body. I think the Kelly BB value for a car in good condition is about right ($3200-$3500). I don't think any car, much less a 14 year old car is in excellent condition unless it has <35K miles on it.
Counter point - my car has 254,000 miles on it. Although there are a few squeaks, it runs and drives perfectly, all interior items work and the air conditioning is cold and doesn't leak. It does burn a bit of oil, but at least it doesn't leave it in a puddle like my buick. If you like the car, anything below $4000 is probably OK as long as you are willing to pay it and don't want to wait. It's the price of instant gratification.

You hit the nail on the head in saying ' the price of immediate gratification.' It has a few things done that i would want done anyway, the only thing that is holding me back is the non vtec and i need it to be more like 3700. I'll also sell the amp and subs, with not even having a radio now, i won't miss not being able to 'thump.'
its not a bad looking lude. a 94 for $4200? hmmm imo 4200 is alot for a regular Si (esp. with all those miles on it). i say drop the price a little and itll be fair. do you really want that prelude badly enough is the real question. hahaha
all this talk really is stupid. if you like the car and you are willing to pay the price, who really cares what other people say. I mean there is always a better deal somewhere else. Are you gonna go crazy just trying to make sure you got the better deal than the other guy got.? just buy the damn car and remove the ugly *** headlights.
I'd say try to talk him down on the price and see how far you can go, I'd say offer 3,500, then use the rest to do a JDM H22 swap
Nice car by the way, all the extras rise the value a little more but if he's desperate for the money, he'll lower the price!

For one thing, its only worth that much money if its a completely unmolested prelude. Modified cars are worth much less.
I got a 92 Si in mint condition, everything was stock, and there was 107k miles on it with one owner. I paid 4500.
I also got a 93 S with Exhuast, and few other pieces of crap to go with it for 3200.
Stock cars have a higher price value.
