High build primer spraying like wall texture, wtf??
I'm trying to spray some high build 2k primer and for some reason it's coming out like indoor wall texture that you spray onto your house walls lol.
I'm using a Devillbiss Starting line gun with a 1.8mm tip.
Pressure is at 30psi with the trigger pulled.
I'm believing that it's my compressor but I'm still pretty noobish when it comes to painting.
Its running off a harbor freight 21 gallon compressor btw

I would be really surprised if you could show me a paint that flashes off in a hundredth of a second as it travels from the gun tip to the surface of the car, sooner actually, because you're saying it's flashing 'before' it hits the panel, so a thousandth of a second.
I don't think turning the pressure down and increasing the fluid flow will to help.
If it's all splotchy, it means it's not being atomizing correctly. Characteristics like that are associated with a variety of issues. Some popular ones are the incorrect tip/needle size for fluid, reduction level of product, pressure at tip as opposed to pressure at gun. (the tech sheet on the gun will tell you what pressure at gun will give you pressure at tip) and
I would find out what the paint manufacturer recommends for tip size on your product. Then look at how much reducer if any. Then check air pressure.
If none of that works, I donno, try shaking up the can of primer in a paint can shaker or something to really break apart the solids.
Maybe there are other ideas out there I don't know about.
Good luck.
Talk to one of the guys that makes it and he said I might not have mixed it enough and to go ahead and add some reducer and it should work.
I hope that works

Something is wrong with your gun settings/gun. You need to fix that before you waste anymore primer.

I took some shots and played with the air control on the bottom of my gun and it would spray better for about 8 seconds than it would spatter again, I'm starting to believe it's an issue with my HF compressor.
I'll be using another compressor with higher CFM's later on either today or tomorrow. Hopefully it works

didnt read any of the other responses, but this is exactly what was happening to me. Problem was there was too much thinner and too high of a psi with not enough fluid flow. have to do alot fo tqeaking with mixtures and spray parameters
Make sure you have the right hardener. Guy at napa gave me clear coat hardener and i didnt pay attention till i started spraying. Had same problem, but he made it right and gave me some goodies.
thats weird... u said u were at 30psi b4... 29psi is usually the max and it sprayed like wall texture.... and u still had to raise the pressure. i guess whatever works right?lol GL wid everything else
