Default Spoon engine/cams dyno-ed... it works!

For all you guys who like to knock Spoon cams and products

We dyno-ed this motor yesterday afternoon. The motor setup is relatively close to a stock Type R. Peak power was 188.8 and torque was 130.5. The graph is nice, smooth and linear.

I don't like to knock Spoon products, as anyone who knows me can attest to, but those results are weak.

Damn, that is one expensive 188whp engine.
Also, what is the difference between the TIR 50mm Ti exhaust and the Amuse 50mm Ti exhaust?

Coming from someone who runs Spoon products,,, I Must AGREE!

For the money spent you could have at least 20 WHP more.

and I mean At least.....

"Research and purchase wisely," that is my Only advice.

188 or thereabouts is a joke for serious N/A tuners.

Yes indeed it is weak. A lot of ppl on this board with Toda Bs , valvetrain , Hondata can't even make it past 190whp.

Pretty much this is a stock motor + Spoon cams so I don't see how weak you ppl are saying.

Pricewise, this Spoon balanced block is still much cheaper to get brand new than from any Acura dealer.

The big question is:

"How much was spent thus far?"

Haha I ate with CHOPSTICKs

This entire engine swap cost as much as a USED B18C5 swap.

And Yet there are FEW that have made it TO or past 200 with "Stock" cams...

I am doing the same thing as any other ppl on this board does. I am not trying sell any parts at this point and I am just trying to proof to ppl what Spoon parts can do.

Upon your request here are the specs for this engine :

Spoon 18C bottom end
Spoon cams/gears
Spoon Plug wires
Spoon TB
Spoon air filter
AJR Reprogrammed ECU OBD2
T1R Header 4-2-1
T1R B-pipe/muffler 50mm ID
T1R Gnd kit
B16A head w/additional inner intake springs to the exhaust springs side

Timing set at 16 degrees and tuned camgears.

As for Toda Bs , MAYBE I can make it up close to 190+whp with this engine but the thing is with this B16 valvetrain , it will be a problem.

Understood, and as I mentioned I am already a previously satisfied customer, so I'm NOT trying to sabotage your service or sales.

but, as many may be interested; What's the cost?

Thank you very much for being detail and customer service oriented enough to divulge All the pertinent information.

What Other if any options were explored?

Again, I am NOT trying to pick here, just being objective. And I appreciate your cordial responses, these are a mark of professionalism.

its hard to compare spoon to honda oem parts from the dealer in terms of cost.

Why not compare to any other aftermarket company.
you can have any engine builder use itr oem parts (bottom end) and any given set of cams and will be at 190+whp

not sure of the total cost of the spoon parts. but it sure is not under 3.5-4k for just the engine.

the cool thing about free economies is that people with money can buy whatever they want. for the money spoon is not seen as a good value/whp ratio
