Default Rebuilding motor, Where to find a 67mm piston ring compressor?

Hey guys,

I'm rebuilding a cbr600f4i, I had everything ready to go wiseco pistons assembled and then i tried to use an adjustable piston ring compressor, but when it was down to the right size it was out of shape and hard to use.

What do you guys use for a piston ring compressor? I need something for a 67mm bore.

Thanks
Shawn

You need two small engine ring compressors with a working range of around 2.5"

I made my own using aluminum spinnings:

What I did was cut the bottoms out and then I cut a channel and used a worm clamp to compress the rings. They worked great.

I don't know how the F4i is set up, but I had to rebuit the top end of my CB550 last year. I used a wooden dowel, and was able to work the jugs on the pistons. I used my fingers and dowel to work around the ring, and slowly push the jugs down onto the pistons. You work on the pistons in pairs, starting from the inner pair. Once those are in, turn the crank to line up the outer pistons. It just take a bit more time.

I have also tried the worm hose clamps, but not too tight. They work as well. Don't forget to lub up everything.

And if you feel resistance, back off. I learn that the hard way. I broke two sets of rings, but the extra force, the first time around.

worm clamp and a cut down plastic soda bottle will also work. Aluminum won't work because it's too thin. Don't ask me how I know
