Connecting Pipe

Trying to get the connecting pipe back in to Water pump, but it will not wedge all the way in. Any suggestions or tips?

I think you have to take the water pump off, put the connecting pipe on, then install the water pump. I know it works this way. Not sure about the way you're trying to do it.

bump, is it possible to do it without doing the pump as I do not want to upset the timing belt?
