Default Timing: Is my oil pump gear in sync with my cams? *pics*

So I'm still trouble shooting this h22 I threw together. I got down to rechecking the timing today. I think it looks good. The cam gear arrows are pointing straight up (with the engine) and the 2 marks on the inside of the gears are pointing directly at each other. However, the crank looks like its ever so slightly turned to the right, instead of being straight up. Is this fine? If I moved the oil pump gear a tooth either way, it seems like it would be even more off than it is now. Does this look good?

Take off the crank pulley and line up the timing gear with the oil pump housing. These pics don't show anything other than, that the cams are at tdc (your cam gear pic is fuzzy, hard to tell).

I haven't had the lower cover off in a while, but doesn't the oil pump gear go on the crank? I assumed it did and that pic I took is with the crank pulley off. I figured if that key in the shaft was straight up, that was the same as having the oil pump gear in the right spot. I was going off of this picture:

There's absolultely no way you can do the way you're trying to unless maybe you marked the cover and pulley, and even that'd be suspect. Remove the timing cover and crank pulley. It takes all of 10min.

The car has already been started and ran. I've been "OH ****"ing since about October when I turned the key on this this project.

For some reason (the diagram I posted above), I was under the assumption that the oil pump gear was on the same shaft as the crank pulley. So I thought I could just pull off the crank pulley and make sure the shaft key was at the top and the oil pump would be good. Looks like I'll be pulling the lower cover tomorrow. I would have done that today but I ran out of time.

Umm, either you didn't understand me or... But I pulled the lower cover and the oil pump gear is on the the shaft behind the crank pulley. The key lines up with the mark on the gear and if the key is pointing straight up, then its lined up with the mark with the oil pump. So I really didn't need to pull the lower cover, which gave me much more than 10 minutes of hassle. I've pieced together this engine, swapped an H22 in and out a couple times, as well as b18 swapping a civic a few times. I'm not new to wrenching, but I'm far from a professional mechanic. A couple of the bolts in the cover were just in damned tight areas and it took a lot of cussing to get them out.

Either way, my timing is pretty much dead on. Back to the drawing board.
