Default will StrutBar Fit on d16y7?? without intake?

Hey I just got a front strut bar, and when I tried trying out the strut bar on the car by just putting it on, it looks like the bottom of the strut bar hits the top of the airbox. and it wouldn't be able to fit at all.
I know that d16y7s are like the only motors in which the throttlebody is facing upwards...
Does any here have a d16y7 with a front strutbar? and is an aftermarket intake the only way to go? if so what type of intake.
thanks for reading..
I'm pretty stuck...

i'm pretty sure they made strut bars for the y7 but i would check. if not you could always do a y8 manifold swap

They don't make strutbars specifically for d16y7. Like on Ebay allThe strutbar is advertised for all 96-00 civics.
Comon I know someone here has a d16y7, even though its weak... I hate how the d16y7 throttlebody comes from the top..

Heres a thing I'm confused about an intake of a d16y7. I know that when you install a intake you take out the air cleaner housing so that the intake connects directly into the throttle body. but d16y7 has a IAT sensor connected to to the air cleaner housing. so what does it connect to when you take out the housing??
heres a picture.

i have a y7 with a aftermarket intake (oem intake manifold tho). i took a strut bar off my old eg and it fits perfectly fine. the only thing is the vac hose that goes to the valvecover was pushed down a bit, but it doesnt bother me.

Hey Sic_DA_Nine, what type of aftermarket intake did you have? I need one that wouldn't get in the way of the strutbar.

what intake was it specifically? I kinda want to make sure it can fit my strut bar.
I was looking at this cold air intake, but Im not sure how high it rises so I can install a strut bar or not.

Most Y7 intakes have a hole pre drilled for the IAT sensor. Just plug it in there. Or you can drill a small hole on the coupler and inject it through there.

but how about the amount of air calculation by the ECU.? will it be the same as the old plastic box.? cause the box is larger than the coupler.

i have a y7 in my 96 LX with an ebay cold air kit. i only used one of the tubes so its more of a short ram now but functions properly, as for performance i doubt it added any but the sound difference is great.

now to get back on topic, i just ordered a set of ebay strut bars and was also wondering if i would have fitment issues. they should be here early next week and i'll upload a picture for you

Looks like you might have a fitment issue.

i'm assuming we have the same or similar ebay CAI and i still have room for adjustment on my intake so i should be able to find a way to make it work with little modification

is this the same as the MAF sensor? if so then my intake had an insert for it to be plugged in, other than the MAF and the vacuum line nothing else has unplugged or relocated.

It's not a MAF it's an IAT, Hondas of this gen use MAP. I can see why you thought that though, most MAF sensors are located somewhere on the intake pipe on other makes.

You guys might be able to use the Password JDM bar, the Benen Tripod, or similar 3 point bars. Im thinking about a Benen because its cheap. I have a y7 with AEM short ram.

password (notice how the cross bar is raised up possibly having enough room for the intake)

benen. similar design might work

ok thanks, well yeah my intake has a fitting for the IAT to plug in although i'm not to sure if its placed in the right location because my gas milage has gone down, i'm averaging about 21mpg

is it because or the air amount inside the CAI? cause the original intake is bigger than the CAI

You'll want it pretty close to the throttle body inlet.

21 mpg is horrible for a Y7. Maybe something else is wrong.

EDIT: just noticed you're not the OP.

pretty sure the aftermarket intake freed up the intake because my stock intake was a plastic tube about the size of a vacuum hose i'd be surprised if its more efficient. and yes my IAT is pretty close to the TB.

sorry for hijacking this thread, i'll post pics of the strut bar as soon as i get it in the mail.
