car: 1990 civic standard, d15b1 engine.

so far only mod is that ive installed a 91 5spd DX trans which i love compared to that wretched 4spd.

now i have all the stuff to do the mpfi but i was wondering if this could possibly hurt mpg? it gets around 35+/- and im loving it. ive done a few mpfi swaps before but ive never actually had one stock to dd as compared to the dpfi im rocking here. also i have a socketed pm6 that i could mess with the fuel and timing with turboedit to possibly pick up some more mpg.

basically im looking for some feedback regarding mpg differences between dpfi and mpfi. also expected power gains? i know im looking for mpg but i also have a d16a6 cam i could install along with the mpfi. 70hp just isnt cutting it but i like my mpg.

nearing 200k and no smoke, no ticks, great compression, runs like a top!

 

i promise you a multi-swap aint hurtin ur milage, it improves it bcuz tha fuel is burned more effeciently...i did it on mi STD an i can drive around tha whole weekend off 10 bucks...dpfi is tha stupidest **** HONDA/chevi ever thot of...ull gain proli around 20hp (feels like 50), an slappin that A6 cam will help u out aloot too, tha cam in tha b1 is tha other reason its so damn slo, im pushin bout 40mpg witta a6 trans if i babi it, so you should gett even a lil better wit that dx one

yeah the dpfi isnt that great but when compared to other FI cars in the late 80s early 90s the dpfi cars run damn good, also the mpg is not that bad. if i can gain 20hp and even get the same mpg i am now i will do it. most likely will take place this weekend.

 

mpfi for the win...stick a zc sohc cam in that head and it will be even better than the a6 cam

 

well i have the si cam, plus ive heard from good sources that the zc cam is the same as the a6 cam... even though sites claim the sohc zc has ~120hp as opposed to the d16a6 at 108hp.

 

of course they got good gas milage for bein cars from tha earli 80/90's but...thier power is ridicuously low, i say that bcuz i member when i was dualpoint id have ta take that moter ta like 4500 b4 i shifted jus ta keep up wit traffic...now ill go ta 2400 an be coo...iv done two mp-swaps, 1st one bymyself, 2nd one wit one friend an we did everything n 2 hours so if uv got help ul be good, dualpoint cant beat anithing, multi-port peels second...swear mi dualpoint killed so much more gas..btw wat mani you usin?

 

I have an '89 DX D15B2 with ~250K, I was able to consistently get between 38-40 MPG (calculated properly - none of this "drive around all weekend off $10" kind of thing).

Last winter I completely rebuilt/restored the car and rebuilt a D15B2 to drop in it. I did an MPFI swap, and also put in a new/rebuilt Si transmission. The car isn't fast by any means, but I certainly don't feel like I'm going to get killed trying to merge onto the highway like I did before.

Now I get about 35-36 MPG combined (again, calculated properly - I fill up at the exact same station with the exact same pump every time). I think the biggest factor in the MPG loss is the Si transmission, not the MPFI swap. Of course, I only have about 2000 miles on the engine now (I haven't driven it all summer), so that number may go up as the engine breaks in even more.

My H22 got slightly better gas mileage than my dual point, and I was using a GSR YS1 transmission. A D series will absolutely sip the petrol.

throw a HF in there if you want better gas mileage. That's what they were made for. Upshift light FTW!!!!

 

i have a d16a6 intake manifold, and a d15b6 intake manifold (crx hf) i also have a complete d15b6 engine, 8 valve, etc. im looking to get around 40mpg highway.

i have my built turbo lsvtec hatch for when i want to go fast, id just like to keep my 35-40mpg and maybe gain some power from the mpfi as opposed to the dpfi. looking like that is what i will be attemping.
