how would you go about removing the steering wheel lock off on a 96 civic?

 

i did this. it will make yoru key stick alittle you gotta wiggle it to make it come out
take off the bottom plastic cover on the columen. unbolt the iginition dealy
there is a gap in it. put the key in and out to find the little rod that slides over to unlock it. i glued mine open. no lock. but key is a tad shady.
i also killed the interior dinger noise dealy. a wired right next to the lock.

 

for real? why?

Not being snide, I'm genuinely curious, as I'm the type who will leave my keys in the ignition and walk away whilst my alarm autolocks my doors. I NEED the door dinger to protect myself from my own stupidity.

So, what is your purpose for removing the steering lock? Making it easier to steal? Or do you just want to roll it around in your garage without the keys in it?

 

I'm with Vindicator. Why make it easier to steal? If you really want to remove the lock though, take a hammer and chisel, tap out the breakaway bolts on top of the column ( which are one-time use) and drop the ignition off the column. this will expose the lock and then you can either A) fill the notch in the column
or
B) use a zip-tie or clamp around the lock on the ignition to prevent it from engaging.
option B will result in a loose ignition once reassembled but it's easy and quick.
For the record, you shouldn't do either. People could steal your car very easily as is. Why make it easier?

well i have a toggle switch and push start button.i also have a 2way alarm.i just want to eliminate the key alll together.plus im going to add a couple kill switches

 

i have a kill switch for a kill switch. aint no1 stealling my shiz. ima vet that dont sleep. with a 38 special by my window all the time. It’s a weekend warrior car.
If it dies while driving it, it locks up
The dinger annoyed me. I wont forget my key, kill swithes, ecu and steering wheel

With the need for a gun and a billion kill switches on the car along with a name like Rick_Rabies....I think you might need a series of shots, but your condition might already be to advanced. :-P

 

I wouldn't tamper with the ignition and just keep an alarm and a clutch club to keep thieves away that way I make sure I don't HAVE to use the .38 super
